Does anyone ever feel as though the person they've chosen to dedicate their life to is an alternate species mentally?

Imagine you encountered a human being who held exactly the same beliefs you do, but came to those beliefs by means you can't agree to. Once you've built a life together on that common ground, how do you reconcile the difference when religious and scientific creeds finally conflict?

That's tough, can you and your partner agree to disagree? There must be some common ground? I might add...what do you want to do?

I'm curious, what do you mean having exactly the same beliefs but coming to those beliefs by means you don't agree with?

Guess I was overly vague when I posted this... I was pretty heated when I wrote it. What I meant was that our morals and opinions have always matched well, very few differences. The points we have differed on haven't been important to us. Example, she's vegan and I'm not, neither stance bothers the other.

In our many years together we've shared a mostly agnostic stance about religion. About a year ago Mrs. Cautious "found Jesus", and she's gotten right into it. Prayer chains, bible studies, all that jazz. Apparently we already had a viewpoint close enough to the church, because there's been very little change to our previously mentioned moral harmony... Other than the "Jesus saves" bit I mean. Even then, we've had very few tense moments because of it.

The night I posted, she'd hit me with a bombshell comment. There's been a major scandal in our local community. Something I'm confident almost anyone would consider unacceptable that I'll just leave at "age related". We were talking about it and she told me I had no right to an opinion. Not from a "judge not lest ye be judged" point either. Rather, one who doesn't believe in the bible can call anything right or wrong. You can't have a moral unless it comes from god.

The coles notes of our fight... nothing is good or bad unless the magic man in the clouds says so. Whether someone's stealing a dollar, kicking a puppy, fucking their sister, or burning down an orphanage... if you think it's wrong for any reason other than because god says so, you're wrong. I accused her of being brainwashed. She'll pray for me.

My spouse was a staunch republican,a Trumper. It almost tore us apart. She's was a gay hypocrite.I didn't want to touch her for awhile but she's had big wake up calls and our bond is strong again, but I can relate to you, some of the things that came out of her mouth blew me away.Politics didn't get in our way 20 years ago,and we were much the same in views.

Listen, it should ALWAYS be about how politics serves YOU... despite people 's divides in red/blue...it sickens me that individuals are more influenced by politics than, themselves or, their families. Any union or, purpose of people's should put their existence; quality of life, FIRST over ANY political affiliation. To put politics first; this is the crux of dysfunction.

Oh I am SO glad politics aren't involved... Both sides are too dangerous today... My biggest issue with modern politics -from both ends- is that no one can admit when their side shits the bed, or the other side has a point. You're either all in as a blind zealot, or you're a traitor. If they were allowed to think about it, say it, how many right wingers would admit ICE is out of hand, condemn their leadership defending the violence? How many lefties would concede that illegal immigration isn't as trivial an issue as their side claims? Instead Left says Kirk had it coming and Right says the same about Good. Even if you consider one worse that the other, neither should be dismissable or acceptable...

Side note, intentional or not, I really appreciate the chance to shift the target for my current bout of fury. Hurts less to fume over.

The thing about christianity is it is taught as believers serve god's army against the world which is everything that is not labeled christian. Also the bible says something about being unevenly yoked a reference to a field animal like an oxen yoked to pull a cart. In other words, if you're not christian, well there is conflict as you have witnessed. You heard the song onward christian soldiers? believers are taught they must defend god at all costs, in reality the secular world couldn't care less about their beliefs. there is no war, try telling that to a staunch believer.
