Philosophy of Nietzsche

The Nazis selectively used Nietzsche's writings to bolster their ideology and built a museum in Weimar to celebrate the philosopher, though it is unlikely Hitler himself read much, if any, of Nietzsche's work. Elizabeth Förster-Nietzsche edited her brother's writings after his mental breakdown in 1889 and quickly began to add, remove and change passages to align his philosophy with her own beliefs and those of her virulent anti-Semite husband Bernhard Förster. Along with her husband, she founded a Utopian "Aryan" colony in the Paraguyan jungle called Nueva Germania in 1887. It was a disaster: her husband committed suicide in 1889 and Förster-Nietzsche returned to Germany. When she died in 1935, Hitler attended her funeral.

The fact that Nazi Germany agreed with Nietzsche and used his writings to form their political and social order might give those who have see this cause to question if it is something we wish to use to guide our personal and national viewpoints. Those who do not remember history are likely to repeat it.

Very interesting, didn't know that. I wonder how much of Nietzsche's writings were sanitized in favor of his sister's view point? What led to Nietzsche's breakdown?

Or will one become a slave to drug use ... and a slave to the chaotic predicament one creates until one loses all hope for self determination.

In the 75 years or so I've observed things. the latter happen almost exclusively.

What led to Nietzsche's breakdown?
A man whipping a Horse in the street.

"On January 3, 1889, in Turin, Italy, philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche allegedly witnessed a coachman whipping a horse, rushed to embrace the animal's neck to protect it, and collapsed, marking the onset of his final mental breakdown. This incident, often considered symbolic of his ultimate empathy, led to his permanent descent into insanity."
