Heroin Why is methadone withdrawal far worse than heroin withdrawal?

It's the sheer DURATION for me. The acute phase that lasts like 5-6 days (before gradually starting to feel better) lasted almost 2 months or me :/
I could NEVER do it now.

Don't wanna be negative btw, I just don't want you having false expectations, like someone said you'll feel better in a week? It takes ~7-10 days to reach it's peak.
Can you get a replacement script? Or do you mean "lost" as in they took you off it? 'Cause that's VERY VERY wrong if they did.
Are you gonna continue cold turkey or get back on it as soon as you can?

I was on 50mg, too.
But yeah, Methadone withdrawal is fucking horrible. The Methadone itself also made me gain like 20+lbs (over 18 months) and I swear I didn't change my diet all. It also gave me Secondary Hyperhydrosis and turned me into a right sweaty cunt. I remember in the Summer even if I was sitting doing nothing, I'd have to shower and change clothes multiple times a day.

I'd try and stick with the Methadone IF it is helping you stay off other opioids.

50 mg is absolutely insane to withdrawl from and should be illegal and constitute human torture in any decent civilized society (humans are far from decent or civilized though and most take joy in seeing ppl suffer from opioid withdrawal) - so fuck society and everything that’s coming to those animals

i’ve tapered down to 1 mg per day and kicked it 3 times like that and it’s not anything horrible doing it like that. awful no doubt but not catastrophic

even coming off 10 mgs per day is way worse than i could ever manage hence tapering down to 1 mg per day

i’m currently on 2 mg per day right now hoping to get off but i don’t think i ever will to be honest. i can’t afford to be that sick at work.

capitalism *complains that everyone is on drugs and can’t work as hard but you aren’t allowed to be sick either*

also capitalism *creates such misery that the only way ppl won’t jump in front of the train is to take drugs that they can’t get off of*

when is RFK opening those government funded camps you can go to to get off all this shit? still waiting for that. or did the fucking moron finally realize that if they pull ppl off drugs the workforce would collapse?

hopefully i can just keep tapering down into the sub milligram dose range and see what happens

When will the UK & NHS see logic & start to give us legal diamorphine scripts for God sake
Was the done thing once upon a time. Diamorphine maintenance used to be known as the British model, but politics, plus methadone is cheaper.

I've never been an opioid user but I nerded out on this when I was doing my degree. There's an old but good book called The Heroin Solution by Arnold S Trebach which goes into it in some depth.

Edit: article on the subject

My God, PAWS that lasts months!!!!!!!

How sick I felt yesterday was a BRUTAL LESSON, I'll never look upon being Heroin sick the same way again. I have had so many times dope sick but from simple Heroin withdrawl, I've only been on a Methadone script since early this year & yesterday was the first time I have felt the Wrath of Methadone.

I kept on vomiting but worse than heroin withdrawl, every single part of my body HURT, when the cat walked on my legs with it's little tippy-tappy paws it felt like I Was being crushed, if I had to deal with several weeks of that I would 100% think about jumping off a bridge as it will be more easy that dealing with it.

Who the hell first made Methadone in the first place?

If you're THAT sick, I'd maybe go to A&E?

As for "who the hell made Methadone in the first place"...the Nazis. Literally, the Nazis; I'm not even joking.

100%. I had to detox off of methadone 3 or 4 times. At this point my last detox one was 36 years ago. No sub around when I was younger so I never had it. But the methadone withdrawal duration lingers into a few months. But then much better.

William S Burroughs stated it nicely. An addict can take a few days of intense withdrawal if it starts to subsides somewhat in a week. It is the length of the detox that cracks the addict. It always took me a month to even feel better, by the end of two months I was back to normal. Street heroin always had me sick for 6-7 days then a dawn would appear. With methadone, it still seems linear, but more drawn out. But it is a fact that I healed 100% each time.

Not big on adding crisis to withdrawal. I NEVER had PAWS. The term did not exist when I was younger. Methadone taking a few months to clear was normal. But I always felt like I took the bull by the horns and had strength after a kick. If I had months of lingering withdrawal and crushing depression I would not have EVER made it off opiates.

Stay well ZB!

"We do not seem to have learnt anything from the experience of our American brethren … cannot our legislators understand that our only hope of stamping out the drug addict is through the doctors, that legislation above the doctors’ heads is likely to prove our undoing and that we can no more stamp out addiction by prohibition than we can stamp out insanity?"

100% TRUTH, reading that link right now.
Thanks for that, the most Logical issue to the Opiate issue is to give us people who are sick "medicine" which we need.

I have worked fucking HARD Manual labour jobs before on a big Smack habit, I can swing a Pick-axe or sledge hammer with the best of 'em in a field under the peak mid-afternoon Sun as long as I am not sick, I could work like a normal person & pay Tax etc if I had "Medicine" but The State wanna give me a sick note & put me on Benefits for the rest of my Life as I am a Junkie, it's fucking insanity, the solution is simple & clear.

How old are you now?
What part of the Planet you from? I assume you are from The USA.

I was able to work 50+ hour weeks on 90mg of Extended Release Methylphenidate in the morning with 240-360mg of Extended Release DHC.

But I came to the conclusion that it’s not sustainable and something is seriously wrong with both me and the job if I needed that.

I find it a full time job just looking after myself at home with no drugs!

Self prescribed;)

"We took morphine, diamorphine, cyclizine, codeine, temazepam, nitrazepam, phenobarbitone, sodium amytal, dextropropoxyphene, methadone, nalbuphine, pethidine, pentazocine, buprenorphine, dextromoramide, chlormethiazole. The streets are awash with drugs you can have for unhappiness and pain, and we took them all. Fuck it, we would have injected vitamin C if only they'd made it illegal."

I jumped off cold turkey at 10mg a day. Sat in the room with it for a week and poured it on the ground on day 7 after not taking any for the entire week. I hiked 10 miles that day with a friend.

I certainly wasn't 100% but I was feeling better and knew by then that I was going to make it.

That scene always reminds me of the kleptomania I had as a youth.

My friends would always ring me out of the blue as I was the medicine cabinet man, and would provide quality info, with my fee being a cut of course.

One day, I’ll find some dextromoramide that needs to be “disposed off” carefully.
