Tryptamines Best way to dry mushrooms?

What's the best way to dry cubensis mushrooms to retain as much potency as possible?
I've seen some say low (35C) and slow, whilst others say high (70C) and fast.

I dried a batch in the oven on defrost setting (don't know how hot) with the door slightly open and didn't get any effects from 1.8g.
They don't get 'snap-dry' when left on a piece of kitchen towel for days at room temp.

Put them in a food dehydrator at 70-75C, until cracker dry, ought to do the trick. An oven might be ok if the temperature is low enough, but moving air will do the job much better and faster.

I've experimented with taking the same exact batch to a hanging air dryer, a food dehydrator, an oven, sun drying, drying on an old heater grate laid out on a cookie drying screen, and freeze drying in my friend's freeze dryer, and the potency hierarchy looked like this:
  • Highest potency: Freeze driers are king, just very expensive. The next best is a food dehydrator.
  • Mid potency: Drying on an old heater grate laid out on a cookie drying screen.
  • Low potency: Air drying (when they don't rot, which they often do).
  • Essentially just ruins the mushrooms: Sun drying.

Were those experiments done blind? How was the batch pre-processed, I assume you dried the fruiting bodies or did you cut them up wet in some effort at "homogenisation"? You never cease to amaze me how many trips you get to fit in into your life - watch out for your heart dude o_O

Put them in a food dehydrator
This is the best in my experience. Or a cool dark not-humid place with a fan moving air over/around them. A wooden box with a few computer fans worked great for me. Box fan for larger batches should work fine.

Once dry they go right into a mason jar (or any air-tight container) and stored in a cool/dark place. I try to avoid plastic for long term storage.

Essentially just ruins the mushrooms: Sun drying.

My guess would be the UV/light is what ruins potency. I wonder how they'd fair in moon light.

Use steady flow of warm and dry air, then keep it closed in a glass jar with screwlid over some dessicant.

I use a food dehydrator on 70C for about 8-10 hours, towards the end I weight a couple of the larger pieces every 30 minutes and when I detect no more weight change I put them in zip locks and keep them in the freezer.
Potency superior or comparable to commercial, no potency loss in 12 months.

If this was adequate to dry them, I bet it would be quite interesting.

I've been keeping an eye on my heart, it seems fine so far. Last night I found that noopept + DOB induces pupillary dilation that resembles "cat eye" contacts, where my pupil dilated vertically but not horizontally. I will not be trying that one again hahaha. For the comparison of drying methods, I would slice them thin before drying, then once dry powderize and homogenize, and I didn't blind myself surrounding the drying methods as I was the one doing it, but I did keep it blinded to the test groups and just summarized what they got back to me with. I do trip every time my tolerance allows it to be possibly, but I suspect it's one of the lowest health impacts I could accumulate from drug use tbh. Little is as safe as LSD, psilocybin, etc.

I understand that eliminating all moisture is key (in addition to no light) for potency preservation. Cracker dry means that any pieces should not bend but break cleanly. IIRC it takes about 48 hours to get there with a 70C food dehydrator. Unusually large pieces can take 3 days or maybe more.

I homogenize into powder, but if I have enough, I do this in smaller batches because I expect the whole dried mushrooms to keep longer than powder.

Power vs. full mushroom doesn't really matter much in my experience. The key is to keep them away from light and the air. So sealed jars in a dark place. Plastic baggies and things without a real seal are not good enough and potency will quickly fall off. I've gotten screwed more than once trying to take shrooms that weren't stored correctly. After a month or two they're near worthless. Eating 3 grams will feel like nothing. Maybe a slight head change.

I don't know why some people insist on not using jars but I've seen tons of mushrooms ruined like this over the years.

If you grind to powder and keep them inside capsules inside of sealed bottles in a cool/dark/dry place they'll last basically forever in my experience. Which holds true for most everything you plan to store long term. A freezer is a wonderful place to keep your goodies for years provided the jar they're in is sealed well.
