But never lose sight of the fact that YOU are someone else's idiot.

In his 1974 book, 'Historical Origins of General Relativity Theory' recounts Hilbert and Einstein's difficult relationship but in that case, after further reflection, both recognized that they were talking past each other. This is recorded in their corespondance. They were able to understand that each was using their own unique 'operating system' and 'data compatability' was not certain. That understood, both enriched the work of the other.

Don't forget, Wittgenstein believed it was the fault of language but abandoned that belief. We cannot employ Gödel numbering to natural speech and even if could that would not solve the problem. Because we are doomed to be uncertain. What even Gödel failed to note is that there are four, not three cases.

1)True
2)False
3)Open (unknown)
4)Blind (unknowable/undecidable)

What Alan Turing was able to prove is that we cannot differentiate beforehand if a case falls under 3 or 4 by any known means of logic.

That said, Jeremy Bentham will always offered the humane perspective - do we NEED to prove a case? Action is what makes us the people we are, not arguments. Always ask 'can this person reasonably accept new facts?', but before that, ask 'can I accept new facts?'

The IGNORE button is so, so valuable to us all. With one button, the idiots are silenced.

You cannot employ logic when someone's opinion is not based on logic. In fact, to them it's an existential threat so they can, do and will fight every inch, reframe the argument and continue. But that isn't their fault, we ALL fight hard if we FEEL an existential threat.

Reductio ad absurdum can be a powerful tool, but like all tools, it can also be a weapon. So then it becomes something worse, a fight.

Never forget Hitchen's Razor - it is not your job to prove a case is false, the burden of proof lies on the person stating a case to be true.

Let's face it, time on this plantet is brief, do you NEED external validation at all, let alone by people who, through not fault of their own, simply have an incompatible 'operating system'? I am not about to debate the type 1 and type 2 splitting now in vogue with some psychologists, but I think it more fair to say it's a spectrum.

We evolved where almost all dangers were existetial and a priori knowlage not employed since language had yet to be developed enough to do so. But what is unique is that the human brain uses 40% of the oxygen the body needs. Thinking proved to be such an advantage to homo sapiens (and almost certainly to the detrement of physical abilities), yet as a species, we are apex in many fields.

But as with all fauna (and flora), there is still genetic diversity hence we are all unique and our only rational measure of who we are now is who we were yesterday.

Then why are you on Bluelight?

Are you being funny as well. Hehee.

It's just about a good debate I would guess.

Friend. wink wink

Just don't let it U turn into negativity.

Because ... why would you want it to. :\

I remember reading about the study of antiseptic practices in the maternity wards in past history.

The Solution: Semmelweis mandated handwashing with a chlorine solution (a form of antiseptic). Simple. Which caused the death rate to drop dramatically. Was disputed at first but proven effective and resolved unfortunately in a misfortunate tragic time lapse that seemed to take a much too long in no timely manner and was a quite extended time delay.

Rejection:Despite the evidence, findings were largely rejected by the medical community for years, as the concept of germ theory did not yet exist

And this is a good reminder of the Shock Experiment as well.

The Milgram Shock Experiment, conducted by Stanley Milgram in the 1960s, tested obedience to authority.

Participants were instructed to administer increasingly severe electric shocks to another person, who was actually an actor, as they answered questions incorrectly.

Despite hearing the actor’s screams, most participants continued administering shocks, demonstrating the powerful influence of authority figures on behavior.

Aim: The experiment studied obedience to authority, exploring whether individuals would obey instructions to harm another person because an authority figure told them to.

~~~~
The video was good Commentary about these and for appreciating an always good Friendly Reminder. :\
Milgram experiment, Stamford prison experiment, Montreal experiments, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, "Ice Pick" Transorbital lobotomy research and even I would suggest Universe 25 experiment demonstrates how as a species, we are so deeply flawed. Eugenics being a field invented in the USA and borrowed.
Extinction Rebellion is objectivly hilarious. Darwin's theory of evolution some how doesn't apply to homo sapiens?
