Hello fellow psychedelic sheep of the families!
So I'm wondering about using untreated dried P. Somniferum pods in a tincture vs a tea. Has anyone tried this before?
The reason I'm considering this method is it seems like it would have a much longer shelf life.
I was very unfortunate to have been bit by a tick and contracted lyme disease just about 20 years ago. I have never been the same. Multiple rounds of extended antibiotics, spinal taps, etc, and I'm no closer to finding relief than I was at the start.
Because I was so young (25) and because of the area I was in (Fairfield county, CT), the doctors were not versed in the truth of the disease and I was *constantly* dismissed as it "all being in my head"....the first doctor I saw, in CT, not far from Old Lyme, with a huge bullseye rash on my back....he had to go get his medical book to make the diagnosis. One doctor literally said, "you're too young to have these problems", and walked out the door.
I have seen doctors all over the country and over and over I was told that Chronic Lyme didn't exist and that I needed psychiatric medication, that the debilitating pain I was experiencing was not real.
I finally got into pain management out here in Big Bear but, even then, the doctor was not listening to me. I kept telling him the 15mg IR morphine wasn't working...for over a year I told him. Maybe because I have dreadlocks and tattoos it made it easier for him to paint me as a drug seeker, I don't know. All I know is I need to take matters into my own hands.
I'm studying herbal medicine. I made a very good wild lettuce tincture that worked pretty well. I use kratom and I found a source for soma (which is the *only* thing that has relieved my daily debilitating headaches from long covid.)
From the lyme I have a wicked case of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I used to have a career....a really good one as a massage therapist and energy medicine practioner. I was 4 years in. I had an incredibly loyal clientele. I had just gone in to private practice. I was making a hundred an hour...then that tick.
My ultimate goal is to get better. I'm only 44. I don't want to be sick for the rest of my life. But while I'm working toward getting back my powers, I need real pain management.
If anyone knows anything about using untreated dried p somniferum pods to make tincture, (or any other method for severe pain), would you please be willing to share with me? My quality of Life depends on it. I refuse to waste my time convincing doctors of what I need. The medication that has worked best for my pain is oxycodone 10mg no tylenol. I want to replicate that level of relief.
I'm also planning on trying psilocybin microdosing. I can't continue on like this...I have *so* much I want to do!
Any knowledge is beyond appreciated.
Love and Light. Onwards and Upwards. Because the only other way to go is down...and fuck a bunch of that!
Blessings

Also, since those initial days when I was told I was crazy, the CDC has completely changed their tune about chronic lyme. They call it Post Treatment Lyme Disease and they've actually started staging the illness. I'd be a Stage 4.
Western medicine has failed me spectacularly so I'm going to try a completely different approach. I want to find a holistic/homeopathic/naturopath and use what comes from the ground. Same for my long covid. If anyone else has struggled with lyme and has any suggestions, I'm completely open.
Thanks again, beautiful people

Hi Ingrid, welcome to Bluelight!

Sorry to hear about your condition, it sounds horrible.

I have no idea if you would find poppy pod extracts to be helpful, but I've used poppy pod tea many, many times recreationally, and they are very effective at relieving pain (as are all opiates) as well as providing a long lasting and stimulating high.

However, don't underestimate their power. They are very addictive and the withdrawal can be brutal.

Also, if you're planning on using bought pods, then please be aware that the alkaloid content can vary wildly from batch to batch, resulting in very little effect, to overdose territory.

You would be better to invest in some quality seeds and grow your own if possible, then start off with a very low dose and titrate up until you find your sweet spot.

Obviously, this requires a lot of patience and is by no means a quick fix.

To give you some guidance, 10 - 12 of my pods grown in the less than ideal climate of the UK gives me a solid high for around 24 hours. I know you're not necessarily looking for a high, but it also relieves me of the pains of life.

If you buy the pods from a good source, you would need fewer. But as I said, buying them is a gamble. At least when you grow your own, there is much less variability.

The downside of that is that you'd need a fuckin shitload to ensure a constant supply.

Good luck!

Pods tincture is too much work, it's not worth the effort, dried pods are very convenient, have long shelf life and tea preparation is quite simple.
On the other hands, tincture works slightly better than tea due to better, quicker absorption.

Tea is the way I had tincture made by a friend of mine and it wasn’t as good maybe he didn’t prepared it the right way idk but he’s very knowledgeable.
How you’re gonna ensure steady supply ? That’s usually the problem with the opioids if you get dependent and you have no secured supply you’re in for a bit so fun ride. Also chronic opiate usage tends to make the pain feel worse, idk if it happens to all people just saying.

I find that brave, fuck the ineffective healthcare system. I almost made laudnum with my pods but I thought it took too long, no ideas on a tincture to share sorry
