Misc Long term safety of ephedrine and caffeine

Hi everyone. I am starting this thread to learn more about the long term safety of ephedrine and caffeine(also known as an eca stack when aspirin is added to the mix). I discovered the eca stack a couple of months ago when searching online for an over the counter appetite suppressant. I have struggled with my weight my whole adult life usually staying in the range of 15 to 30lbs over my goal weight but never able to reach it.

I have an absolutely voracious appetite. It seems no amount of food satisfies me until I am so full I cant hold another bite. I have tried many things over the years to help but nothing seems to work. The only way I have kept from becoming fat is by simply not keeping any food whatsoever in my house.

It seems that over the last 4-5 months my appetite had gotten even worse than normal and I was starting to put on some weight, that is what led to the search for an appetite suppressant and the eca stack.

For the last month and a half I have been taking 25mg of ephedrine (bronkaid) and 200mg of caffeine three times a day. I decided not to include the aspirin. So far the experience and the results have been great. It really does take the edge of my appetite and if I understand correctly the stack also causes your body to burn more calories. I have already lost some weight. The other benefit is the energy it gives me.

I have tried energy drinks and caffeine before but they never really gave me more energy or helped wake me up in the morning. It really is amazing how I can be dead tired in the morning and in thirty minutes or so after taking the ec stack I am wide awake and feel much better.

Now to discuss the safety and potential health problems. From what I have read It seems the main concern is heart trouble. There have been reports of ephedrine leading to heart attack, stroke, and deaths. I read several studies from the early to mid 90s that all seemed to indicate that the eca stack is safe for weight loss. None of the studies reported any adverse side effects. I have also read many anecdotes on different forums(mostly bodybuilding forums) of people using the eca stack with success and no bad effects. A few of the posts I came across even said they have been using it for a couple of decades.

What are your thoughts? Is ephedrine highly likely to damage my heart with continued use? Thank You!!

(By the way, my responses to your posts may not be timely. I don't have internet access at my home.)

I would also like to note the side effects that I have experienced. Nothing adverse or major. The first few weeks I noticed how it raised my heart rate. I would also sometimes feel nervous/anxious but not in a mental way. It was like my body felt that way but not my mind. Anyways, It didn't bother me. I actually kind of like the feeling. I don't notice these feelings or an increased heart rate much anymore, though occasionally I do.

The periferical effects of ephedrine are more noticeable, relative to the high, than for stronger stimulants. I guess that’s why ephedrine and pseudoephedrine are used as decongestants. Pseudoephedrine is the only substance that has made my heart go totally crazy. It happened suddenly without warning and it took years to recover, although EEG showed nothing wrong. I have never had similar experiences with methylphenidate or amfetamime.

Both ephedrfine and sudafed make my heart go wacky every time. I never got this off ritalin or amphetamine either.

Imo find a safer stimulant like dexedrine, adderall or vyvanse if you can. Dexedrine is great at supressing appetite and vyvanse is actually prescribed for some eating disorders.

I don’t fuck around with anything other than methylphenidate or caffeine.

Both tend to be a lot less peripheral with proper dosing and self care strategies.

Other agents tend to do weird and negative things, and I just believe they are far worse for intended purposes.

Nutrition met solely by Whole foods and walking with occasional weight training will sustainably build lean body mass and rapidly lessen adipose body tissue.

Any other form of weight loss causes to many negative hormonal stress reactions, and haemorrhages valuable tissue.

It’s worth doing it properly, muscle is worth more than gold.

Issue with methylphenidate is the very short half life. It’s very up and down, almost like Cocaine.

Thanks for the responses. I have continued taking the ephedrine with good weight loss results. It has also been great for energy early mornings before I go to work. I have been doing more research on the eca stack and honestly from what I have come across it really doesnt seem all that dangerous. One extra benefit is that it appears ephedrine burns fat but preserves muscle. I guess the long term effects aren't really known though. With that being said I would still like to find an alternative.

Are there any otc supplements or medications that could replace the ephedrine? I have heard of synephrine but I read that it may not be much safer than ephedrine and it may not be as effective.

I would just go to the doctor and ask for Vyvanse or some other stimulant but it seems unlikely they would prescribe it. Maybe it would at least be worth talking to my doctor about. The only problem is I have only been to my current doctor one time and If I ask for stimulants on my second visit it might seem a little suspicious to him. Does anyone have any advice on how to approach the conversation?
