i'm getting bit of a mixed message so forgive me but you sounded pretty offended when you wrote:

@alasdairm what do you think about prayer groups in public schools here in the US? Like when I was in high school they had Bible club and every Friday they had this huge thing where everyone could leave class and go pray around the flag pole.

i don't know much about them but, if they're not mandatory, parents have input and, if somebody wanted to start a similar group based on any religion, doesn't sound like a problem to me.
