It's Not What You Know...

Many people mistake this track for a happy, summery and positive song. The truth is, it's a direct attack by Steve Harley on his former bandmates. A very nasty one, in fact.

Long, long before the DIY ethic of punk, we had T Rex. A band consisting of a man who couldn't play the guitar and a man who couldn't drum. I chose this because it's a wonderful demonstration of just how BAD Marc Bolan's guitar work really was. I hope a few BLer who CAN play (or can't) will comment on the unique lack of talent displayed by this track. Listen right through - it only gets worse.

Not "nasty" imho - the beauty is in coping with the reality of disappointment; in the face of probable, inauthenticity... very human; great tune.💜

Fuck the flags; fuck the red & blue; fuck the rainbow & all it's affiliates; fuck the identity politics of anything... BEFORE they tried to hijack personal identity (race/sex etc..blaa blaa) to garner votes. This is beauty 🥰

Cod psychedelia... Brilliant pastiche of the genre. Right down to the bad mixing and ONE key change.
