News Severe Co-Codamol Shortage in the UK

The above is the NHS official announcement of a severe nationwide shortage of Co-Codamol. I think it mainly refers to prescribed 30/500 tablets.

Whilst this sucks for recreational users, it truly sucks for those prescribed for legit pain conditions.

Local medical advice here is to “simply” taper over the next few weeks and suck it up. This is wildly inappropriate imo. It’s not like the underlying pain condition simply vanishes.

If this affects you or anybody you know, please check with your GP to see what - if any - contingencies have been put in place.

No issues with Nurofen Plus/Generics and seen Paramol too but alas these are different things..

Cheeky forced withdrawal, I think this explains why I’ve always hoarded medication, I cannot trust it not to be arbitrarily taken away.
 
I tried eating 20 mg of morphine last night - gutsache like you would not believe - apparantly morphine slows digestion so you get a ton of acid floating round your stomach.

The few times I had Ora morph I got this exact feeling, and get it from codeine. DHC way less guts ache

I’ve read that the form of DHC used in Paramol is sup optimal for CWE due to solubility issues but I can’t remember where it was, maybe a thread on BL.

Some people will say that due to its strength you could in theory plug it to get far stronger effects but there’s no rigid consensus of weather DHC strength comes from DHC being active it self or the conversion into Dihydromorphine.

Oral BA is markedly low 10-20% but it’s noticeably stronger then codeine,(estimated 1.5x-2x I’ve been puking my guts out on 210mg DHC and only fairly high on 210mg Codeine

Yes. DHC is far better. Burroughs said "twice as strong as codeine and almost as good as heroin" .

I hear the cloudy residue from Paramol is due to a binder, not paracetamol, as some scare story on here claimed. And you need so little water that the paracetamol would be negligible anyway. It's very, very soluble in water. Try crushing up some pure DHC pills; they're dissolved almost immediately.
