Opioids How long should I detox from oxy until my tolerance is somewhat reset?

Hi all!

I am trying to reset my Oxy tolerance right now because my doctor said she couldn’t increase my dose (she did say we can talk more about it next meeting, seemed like she was in a hurry this time). I have been opioid free for 3 days 1 hour (73 hours). I was wondering how long I should wait for my tolerance to at least get a little bit lower. I have done this before and usually wait about 6-7 days, as I have tried taking some on the 4th day of withdrawal and it is the at the same level of efficacy as it was before. Usually 6-7 days works but I am not sure how much longer I can hold off. Please let me know what you guys think! Thanks in advance!

Honestly? If you want anything resembling a reset I’d say 30-90days.

A week doesn’t do much especially heavy daily use. Even when I’d only use 300mg of codiene 2x a week, and take a week off, sometimes it still be weaker even with a week without any.

The last few times I did any Opioids, I’d wait a month or more inbetween, I’d get 1 maybeeeee 2 doses with very strong euphoria and then it’s being a constipated scratchy irritated asshole with little effect very quickly.

Diminishing returns and all that.

Yeah, it would take some significant time to reset I think. I know I've heard that doctors will switch opioids for you periodically, the idea being that a new one will work a little different and therefore you can compensate for tolerance to it. But I can't see how it would make a huge difference for resetting tolerance since all opioids work pretty much by acting on the same opioid receptors. The atypical ones like tramadol and kratom work a little differently, on additional receptors, maybe they could help for awhile if you are having trouble going strictly without? Or something else your doctor could prescribe. But full disclaimer, I really don't claim to know.
Good luck

Tolerance will return to baseline after 2 to 6 weeks, roughly.

It's worth me mentioning that if you have a history of significant use, returning to opioids after tolerance returns to baseline will result in a rapid increase much quicker then when you were naive.

What I'm saying is even after a long break expect you're tolerance to return to pre-abstinence levels after only a few doses (or a couple days).

After a 2 year break from all opioids, 36 hours of heroin use (200mg ish) resulted in withdrawals for me.

So tolerance resets pretty quickly, about a month. But the actual physical states of the brain that are involved in tolerance may never truly return to baseline.
