Does Kratom prolong opioid w/d

Hello all,
Newly registered membered, but have lurked for years here and appreciate all the words of wisdom from everyone over those years.

I am currently working free of a mild oxycodone (roxi 10s) habit and am dealing with some moderate w/d. Its been 72 hrs since my last oxycodone dose. I decided to give kratom a try ( never used before) to alleviate the symptoms of W/D and also to possibly help with some chronic neck pain as well. I've used 2grams of Red Bali each night since my last dose of oxycodone and it has allowed me to sleep through the night(mostly) relatively comfortably. I have not used any during the daytimes and just dealt with the shitty w/d feeling.

I have some questions/concerns that I hope you wonderful people could help clear up for me. First, I am very concerned that by taking the kratom I am just prolonging the w/d period. I expect to feel shitty for about 7-10 days if I were simply cold turkeying this thing. What I'm wondering is, by taking the Kratom, am I resetting the w/d schedule back to day 1 each night or can I continue to dose the Kratom and still feel better in a week or so? My second question is strictly about the kratom. If I manage to make it to the light at the end of oxy tunnel and can finally get off the train, can I use Kratom sporadically to mange pain without becoming hooked to the point of having to w/d off of this stuff as well??? I'm honestly just at a point in my life where I simply do not want to be physically bound to a drug AT ALL. I'm 40 years old with two young kids (6 and 8) and I've been dealing with addiction since my early 20s and I'm just ready to be free of it. Thanks for listening, sorry for the long post.

I'm not sure if I posted this in the correct forum. If not I'm sorry, please feel free to move it elsewhere 🤙

Yes anything that interacts will restart your physical withdrawal based off it’s half life which is subjective but pretty well documented.

People are starting to post that very long half life substances are allowing them to walk off the opiates they are physically dependent on with little or no physical withdrawals. So methadone kinda has an untypical half life.. it can be really subjective, meaning it can be really different for individuals. But after reading and supporting people’s detox threads for a long time i noticed that a small portion of methadone therapy people reported they were able to literally walk off with no physical withdrawals. This however is only half the issue. it’s not currently wide that I’m aware of. Something to explore.

You still need to possibly address psychological addiction.

Thanks for the reply and the link. I'll take a look.
Is the half life of Kratom long? I didn't realize that, I was under the impression it had a short half life which is why ppl dose two to three times a day

It could be, but when you research it.. look up different strains as they may have different half lives. Look up the three major opiate receptors. The most unpleasant thing with physical withdrawal is it is very difficult to not pay the piper… in attempting to try and circumvent the physical misery we can often times just prolong the agony. That being said and certainly true, from others posts and experience I would look into it. I’m many years down the road.. but that was really hard.. and if multiple people are posting they were able to walk off the physical symptoms I would certainly look into it.

So your up against withdrawals… take the half life of the opiate your kicking multiply it by 5 and then add about 3.5 days and you will be through the tunnel.

But that is what everyone focuses on.. because it’s so brutal.. oxy has a short half life you are almost there!!

Fight Fight Fight your going to go through the same misery to eventually get out. Look up PAWS and addiction if you struggle getting off in your initial attempts.

Pm me if you want to bounce any questions off me. Or just roll it hear as it could help others.

withdrawals ain't also directly relative to their effect for various reasons. Kratom also has additional properties aside of mu-activity that might eventually add up to withdrawals when and if you are quitting.

Short course of gabapentinoids ease opioid withdrawals significantly. Also some other stuff, like black seed oil, or that is what has been told to me, but that I don't have experience of.

I can not tell if you should do short course of gabapentinoids because I am not aware of your other medications or conditions that might interact with it. It is also dependence-forming for some people, for some people not so, so anyway it is recommended to keep the course very short if you or your doctor concludes it is good idea.

What kind of surprises me is that you said you are getting relief from the oxy withdrawal using only 2g of kratom powder. That is a pretty small dose. But as @Pissed_and_messed points out, kratom does have other effects besides just on the mu receptors, so maybe there is some additional effect there that eases withdrawal? At least until you stop the kratom, too.

Hi, congrats on making the choice. It's worth it. I've never tried Kratom at all, but looked into it a lot for my opiate WD. I tried a lot of things, and nothing really made that much is a difference. The biggest thing that helped me kick Fentanyl, heroin, which was mixed with oxy. Was just pure will power. Eat as healthy as you can, drink a ton of water. Get outside, move around, but dont over exert yourself. take hot showers. Let it work out of your body. Pills take a little longer to get thru withdrawal, but, you will start feeling a little better every few days, once that initial slam is over. Your brain needs to remember how to make seretone again. Sorry. I may have the name wrong. But. You know what I mean. I hope. Lol. If you got this far, ride it out ! There is nothing worse than going thru those 1st few days, that 1st week again. I've been thru this so many times, been clean, sober almost 7 years now. After a 20 year run on heroin, which was mixed with who knows what. It's not easy at 1st, I know. I still have issues here n there. But not enough to make me start using again. I would really stay away from the Kratom. It can prolong things. Try mild doses of melatonin. Get enough physical movement to make your body tired. Relax, clean your mind at night. Dont smoke ciggs for about 3hrs before you try to sleep. Cut out caffeine and sugars. Another big thing. Stay off all screens before trying to sleep. Our phone, computes, TVs, messes with our sleep circadian. I even sat in a parked out room with calm music on, and candle light. Its helps. A dim red light. Just to see, if you need, is even better. If you cant fall asleep, atleast close your eyes a few hours at a time. Let your body, eyes, and mind rest. It will help. Good luck, I wish you the best. Dont give up now. Once you get thru this you will feel better, and you can make a better life for yourself.
