Im hoping someone can understand whats wrong with me. I have been on oxycodone for the past 12 years. At the start after my surgerys i was up to 140mg for multiple years without issue. i managed to taper down to 25mg per day. for some reason it seems the oxy was creating some sort of chronic fatigue issue. On 25mg i was doing alot better. I injured my back and my oxy dose went up to around 35mg per day. For the past 2 years. and now here we are currently.

The last couple of months have been really hell. Been to the er multiple times for this and they dont know either.

for some reason i was getting withdrawal. I ended up in the er and told them. im taking the same dose daily, but getting severe withdrawal. they could not help me. ran some tests and could not diagnose anything.
So i decided when i left the hospital that I would pick a dose and stay on it and fight through the withdrawal. Hell was unleashed going from 35mg to 27.5mg
Multiple panic attacks, high BP. extremly cold and shaking. very typical opoid withdrawal signs.

I fought through it and day 8 of my taper I felt ALOT better. became semi normal again.

I am Stable on a dose of oxy of 27.5mg every single day currently. However the tide turned the other day and now i am actually getting moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms again.. I dont know why im not truley " stable" on it. i was last week, and now i am not. im shaking shivering nauseas and have terrible stomach pain. my anxiety is through the roof and I pace and pace the house inbetween doses and throwing my shoulders back. i went to the e.r again and they said to me... we dont understand. you havent taken any more oxycodone or used any other drugs? No. i havent.. they sent me home again.

I am Tossing and turning all night. Shaking and tremors.. Chills. High anxiety. Very typical opiate withdrawal symptoms. Doctors dont know why im going into withdrawal despite been on a "steady dose" that ive been on for 3.5 weeks now. . I take 5mg every 4hrs through the day. Plus an added 2.5mg before bed.

I have been on oxy for a very long time. And I cant quite work it out either. Its very distressing. I might get SLIGHT relief after taking a pill for about an hour or two but then it comes back again.

Im.supppose to have my wedding in a weeks time. And right now im really struggling.

I have not used any other opoids or have taken extra doses at all. and never gone over for the day. Im currently waiting to see my pain specalist so i can move off oxycodone to another longer acting opoid. for the past 12 years ive had to dose every 4hrs to avoid minor withdrawal. im sick of it. but now my withdrawal is EXTREME.

I need serious help. Im really unwell. And i need to try understand whats happening to me. so if someone is knowledgeable of what possibly could be happening here. i would love to know?

Thanks guys

If ya have a doctor as I assume there is at the least pain management involved; ask about a drug named (generricly) clonidine.
.01mg is effective for me. I was Rx-es it for anxiety and sleep (no disturbing restlessness). Worked a charm. It lowers blood pressure so not recommended for some with conditions that could end up being fatal... just a warning talk to your doctor.
I talked to my doc and he knows I'm tapering off of an RC benzo and he said that the med should also aid in this endeavor. It did and still does if it's not placebo: I doubt it is because I know bnz wds well.
Multiple panic attacks, high BP. extremly cold and shaking.
Sounds a lot like some symptoms of benzodiazepine wds ime.
Be safe and definitely taper but hold doses long enough to become stable or homeostatic. Takes time as we know, yeah?
Keep us posted l, cool?
And maybe it is time to go up on the dose but again talk to dr(s) because long term means longer time coming off... just my experiences.
Best wishes,
J

Wow you definitely sound unsettled. How are you doing today? You know - sometimes our bodies just change. Out of the blue, at 50 years old I became allergic to penicillin. Had an enormous hive on my belly. I thought some parasite had hold of me or something. I have taken that antibiotic a zillion times in my life. The dentist said "yea, that sometimes just happens" (developing allergies).

Maybe it's time to try a something other than opiates. You might have developed some kind of negative response without knowing it.

I was wondering if you have XR or IR oxy? It sounds like you mess with IR which would explain the need to dose every 4 hours.

Also with your history of pain management at a relatively high dosage at times it's possible your natural resistance to withstand withdrawal symptoms has suffered over time. This is not unheard of that there are initially no (or very little symptoms) and that you can get away with longer usage times (and subsequent breaks) before withdrawal increasingly becomes a problem. Also the more often you undergo considerable withdrawals the more this time frame can get shortened.

Now I am not saying this is what's happening to you but factors like resistance to withdrawal are not set in stone and are subject to change depending on factors like usage.

The best you can do is indeed seeing a pain specialist. Maybe only some slight adjustments are necessary. Also not unheard of in pain management.

Get your testosterone and vitamin d levels checked.. these may be responsible for some of these symptoms but not all of them. Almost seems like your presenting acute withdrawals along with post acute symptoms and this may be why.

Also the symptoms may not even be related to the opiates. Consider going back into the ER and asking them to treat and diagnose you as if you were not a patient on opiate therapy. I think this is it. How do your symptom respond to acetaminophen?

THis tends to happen with benzos never really heard of this happening with opiates but maybe your receptors are fried from long term use.

I thought I would come back and tell the news that i feel 100% completley better.

I had an emergency appointment with my pain doctor and he put me on OXYCONTIN ER 10mg every 8hrs... so i have 30mg over 24hrs.

It has compeltley resolved all issues.
So if someone finds this thread through a google search and you have similar symptoms as me. I hope you find peace again.

Ive never had oxycontin er in my life before. i was also on instant release oxynorm pretty much for 12 years. my only regret is doing this and switching to extended relief many years ago.

Some things i have noticed from switching.
To extended release

1. Less histamine type dumps / responses? i dont know why this is. but sometimes my heart rate would skyrocket after taking my tablets.

2. better sleep. my receptors are covered throughour the nighr time leading to me now sleeping 8 hours per night as i used to wake up after 4hrs. or sometimes 6hrs to dose. a horrible decade of broken fragmented sleep.

3. Less stomach bloating?? (Weird.). through the interdose withdrawals every 4hrs I seemed to get gi upset and my stomach was in a state of 247 distress for years?

4. Complete coverage of pain around the clock. (Ive decided to go back to the gym i feel pain free in my spine and neck) in over 8 years. my wife is so happy she can see me pain free again.

So thanks,
I am so happy.

Thankyou for all that responded to this thread for my pleas for help.
But I cant help find out exactly why instant release was litterally killing me. ? I lost 10kg in 2 weeks. I pretty much stopped eating i was so sick. I have been in this state for around 24 months now with no reprieve.
Yes , 24 months of constant in and out of withdrawal. my body and mind were shatterred.

Some thoughts are

1. Possibly the OXYNORM ir dose and forumlation has changed down at mundipharma? maybe some sort of binder / filler they use is now differrent.? than they use to use.

2. My stomach was in some sort of distress that it no longer could break down the oxynorm IR ?

3. i am a rapid metabolizer and i have that proof via genetic testing. ?

The whole situation Its very bizzare indeed. but glad to have my life back. the last 2 years have been litterally hell. actual living hell.

Thanks again guys. appreciate you all.
Glad to get my life back and live pain free.
