What Are You Drinking? V2. Frosty Jacks - For The Discerning Pisshead

Yes you do read that correctly: a 12% beer. I couldn’t resist, obviously… =D

Super high-strength beers are usually too sweet for me. This is very much an exception…

Made with cacao nibs and it definitely shows. So bitter it almost tastes like mixing straight-up cocoa powder with espresso, then steeping dried fruit in it.

This doesn’t necessarily sound appealing but was actually pretty good for a, let’s face it, stunt beer.

Did cost six fukkin quid for a single can at my local Sainsbos though (that’s with Scottish minimum pricing, naturally).

Worth a punt imo. Especially if you live in an area without such stringent alcohol pricing.

Barnstormer 5% cider, cheapest around if you cba to walk to the supermarkets
Barnstormer! That takes me back. Used to buy that quite a bit when I was a student (dropped out); usually drank it while sitting on a bench, weather permitting.

Must be 1999 since I touched the stuff.
Two Tribes Nomad Hazy IPA 4,4% brewed exclusively for Eurostar in the café aboard the Eurostar from London.
Had some Two Tribes recently (was it Campfire?) and it was definitely a cut above most of the supermarket IPAs.

Yeah, my sister was interested in Lowry and wanted to go to see his exhibition at The Lowry Centre in Salford Quays when she visited me. So we went, and the guide went into a lot of detail about Lowry, remarking about many things, including that apparently he was "a pervert."

The only evidence I've found for that is a few sketches of his that I've seen featuring women in kinky / fetishistic type outfits. As per the link you posted. I've not read the article yet, but I will do.

Doesn't seem anything too outrageous to me tbh from what I've seen.....Dunno if we live in a nation of prudes, or if my boundaries are a bit more 'liberal' than the norm :\

People should check out the Deviant Art website before they judge Lowry, imho.

His sketches would definitely have fitted in very well on there.

I also watched the movie about him. It was pretty good, in a slow kind of way.. The guy was a bit weird I guess, living with his mother for her entire life, and according to the film, he used to enjoy being followed by the local children so he could occasionally throw some pocket change their way. But there were no suggestions that there were any sinister motives behind that, as there probably would be these days. Where such behaviour would probably be frowned upon to say the least. It's a shame that innocent fun, is no longer allowed just to be that
There was as actually a sub-plot in the brilliant British series brassic alluding to Lowry's extra curriculars.. and back to the song in question, I think 'painting kids on a corner' would probably raise at least one eyebrow 😉

I was naughty and had tadcaster bitter Saturday only once every two to four weeks, maybe Guinness or Newcastle brown ale next time

hmm not familiar with brassic, but yeah you'd probably get arrested these days for painting kids on a corner. Although they were very different times in the 70s and earlier of course.

Did you ever see some of the dark stuff he did?

Very interesting and well put together article.

It reminds me of the film now, which starred Timothy Spall in the titular role. The film and the article seem to be coming from exactly the same place, whereas sometimes you can get completely contradictory accounts.

It's a Mike Leigh film, so it did have that northern gritty realism of some of his best films like Naked. But it was also a bit too slow at times, but not unbearably slow throughout.

Worth a watch if you ever get chance, and are in the mood for slowing things down.

I noted the snobby Tate Gallery keep many of his works in their basement, rather than on display, as they consider him a popular rather than important artist. But I think Lowry got the last laugh with getting his own permanent exhibition centre opened and named in his honour in Salford Quays.

Decided to get in the mode for the sumo wrestling on BBC iPlayer at 19:30 it's only the second time the sumo tournament has been in Britain, last time was 1991, so just got back from Tesco with 8 regular bottles and 1 large bottle of Ashahi Japanese beer, not had it for ages but the amount I have got is for tonight until tournament final on Sunday, not getting blind drunk just 2 regular bottles from tonight until Saturday and one big bottle on Sunday for chilling and soaking up the atmosphere and ambience and the spiritual way of the sumo!! Watching some of the heaviest and strongest combat sport warriors on earth may seem pretty unpleasant to some but I love watching SUMO!

Had barnstromer in the past and frosty jacks, crumptons and omega but only the biggest bottles and got fooked on the stuff and rarely kept it down, always half way through the bottle and then boom I turned into the great vomiting projectulist a slight mix of Niagara falls in amount and width but more full blast than fire hose, 🥳🧐🥴😜🤣💙

Had the usual four John Smith's earlier, admittedly a little bit earlier I called one of the local pubs near me to check on what draught ale they have as they usually have their own orange flavour and honey flavour ales for takeaway but sadly today they don't have those ales available, just as well, shouldn't really break my rule of over four every so often but will leave it until next week.
Does anyone on here like fruit, honey or other flavoured beers?
