RFK and Trump claim to have found the "cause" of Autism.

As promised they claim to have found the cause, and presumably the cure for Autism.

Apparently it's down to the mother taking paracetmol during pregnancy. :ROFLMAO:

This completely flies in the face of all evidence, and ignores the complex hereditary and genetic factors that play a large part, along with a recent increase in awareness among the general population, as well as better and broader diagnostic detection.

So if anyone is naive enough to believe these charlatans, it seems paractemol if off the cards during pregnancy,

Lets see what happens to the Autism rates if no pregnant mothers take paracetomol from now on shall we?

Oh it will come as such a shocking surprise in a year or 2 when the new data comes in, that the no paracetomol did not make any difference. Who would have thought it? Not me, no certainly and absolutely not.

RFK appears to be some kind of lunatic, coming from a legal not medical background, and somehow thinking that he's going to find the cause and cure for the "Autism Epidemic" or "Horror Show" or something similar that Trump called it, in 3 months, despite this having been studied for many many years.

Wouldn't it be a massive surprise if there was another 'safe' analgesic - with a patent - that could replace paracetamol (or acetaminophen / Tylenol for Yanks)?

The studies would eventually come in and - like paracetamol - it's had fuck all effect on autism, but Trump scores points and the pharmaceutical giants cash in.

Totally. Incredibly thin, and flying in the face of all evidence that's been gathered over decades that any apparent increase in Autism rates, is in fact only an increase in detection rates. The Autism rates have always been as they are, it was just that many, particularly older people, previously went undiagnosed. Older people suddenly realising their Autism and getting diagnosed must be making up a large part in the "epidemic" that some hysterical idiots like to refer to. That was exactly my situation. And I don't think it was any surprise that all of the other atendees in a post diagnosis video support group that I attended were also middle aged men.

As i said originally, there are complex hereditary and genetic factors that play a large part, along with a recent increase in awareness of Autism among the general population, as well as better and broader diagnostic detection and criteria..

It's laughable that that is the best they could come up with.

W/e they came up was going to be wrong, how they expected to "cure" Autism in 3 months, when it has already been studied for decades, with no definitive conclusions, is either massive arrogance or stupidity. Or both.

Honestly I'd wager that the rise in autism is simply down to lack of socialisation in younger children. The fact that parents stop trying to get their children to socialise normally once they have the autism diagnosis doesn't help either. I'm sceptical of big pharma but the whole "vaccines (and now paracetamol lol) cause autism" thing never made much sense, what's the mechanism?

I got mumps because of that vaccine nonsense.

The damage was already done anyway because I had hyperlexia, but most of the 'autistic' symptoms of that fade away over time. But it must have been shite for my parents having to discuss every house number and road sign we passed.

The paracetomol and vaccines thing wont make sense because it is nonsense.

The broad causality of the increased rates, has been narrowed down to a mixture of complex hereditary and genetic factors that play a large part, along with a recent increase in awareness of Autism among the general population, as well as better and broader diagnostic detection and criteria..

I guess it's possible that the socialisation of younger children may play a part, but if the condition is already present due to inherited genetics, then it seems more likely that all the socialisation in the world isn't going to make much difference.

It's kind of like the controversial ABA movement, that try to 'cure' children of their Autism via a mixture of rewards and punishments. It usually ends up with the child being traumatised, or going on to develop mental illnesses like anxiety or depression. Even if they may have temporarily learnt to supress or mask certain 'undesirable' Autistic traits or symptoms. Doing this comes at a high cost to energy and their sense of self.
 
I'm sure there is a large genetic factor, obviously there are autists who are basically non-functional and can't speak or do day to day tasks, that isn't likely to be anything to do with how they're raised. But I think in cases of high functioning autistic children, actively encouraging them to socialise, and to an extent "act normal", rather than pandering to all of their whims and wrapping them in cotton wool would equip them better for life.

I have no evidence for this, I am purely basing this opinion on vibes, so I might be wrong.

Yeah Trump and RFK were always looking to pin it on vaccines, but I guess they finally thought it a better bet to go with paracetomol, of all things. :sarcasm:

Autism isn't something you can prevent, by avoiding paracetomol, any more than it can be prevented by encouraging children to 'act normally', which is basically what the ABA crowd try to do.

As I said earlier this usually ends up with the child being traumatised, or going on to develop mental illnesses like anxiety or depression.

I guess to some extent some social skills can be learnt and improved, but the fundamentals cant be changed.

Autism isn't something you can prevent, it's genetic in built into the brain in utero. Anyone who says otherwise either doesnt know much about Autism, or is spreading misinformantion.
