Does this mean political satire is now banned? Honestly this is nothing worse than Spitting Image was back in the day. Would such a program also now be banned? It certainly appears so.

Will 'Have I Got News For You' also be banned from now on? And Private Eye?

Honestly is no one else as appalled and horrified as me as to what is happening right now?

I cannot believe this is happening in the UK. What happened to our supposed democracy?

Why is all this happening NOW? This clearly has nothing to do with Protecting Children.

The only consolation is that youtubers and random internet people like me, still appear to be free to criticise these measures. If and when such content starts getting removed, beyond 'merely' requiring verification to view, then we will be no different to the likes of China.

If I suddenly stop posting, it will mean that the thought police have got me, and I never was safe all along.

I suspect they are trying to scare people away from making posts and videos like this. But the more people that refuse to be cowed the better.

Even Donald Trump has criticised the UKs measures FFS, and that really says something, where even he thinks the UK is going too far!!

This government has totally lost the plot. In a very big way.

I guess a face check isn't too much of an invasion of privacy.

Still unwelcome though, after 25 years of using the internet with nothing like this.

I still think the policy would be better if it targeted households with children. The ISPs could get that info easily enough I;m sure. Then fair enough for some kind of child protection checks in those households.

But it pisses me off that everyone has been targeted indiscriminately and unnecessarily.

No one can explain how someone in a household without children uploading their face or ID protects children. As there are no children to protect in that household.

It's ridiculous and pointless really.

Sadly Wikipedia just lost their legal battle, so age or ID verification will be required for UK users to upload or access certain sections, which is just plain wrong and scary.

At the moment only the biggest sites are being targeted, defined as "category one", so things are easy to get round by either using smaller sites, or a VPN, or tor.

Not sure where they are going to draw the line, as to what kind of visitor numbers are required for websites to be classed as category one, and for all of this BS to be required.

Tik tok has been included in the first wave, and has had to ban under 18s. AFAIK most of it's users are under 18, so this will pretty much kill that site in the UK.

British users will certainly have to provide ID to use this site, if or when it comes to light. Who's going to do that!?

Unless they use bypass measures. Decent VPNs are only £30 or so per year. So worth it. Especially now, more than ever, as these restrictions start to kick in across the board.

Tor is free. But your ISP can see that you're using it, if you don't also use a VPN. And that can lead to issues if they suspect 'criminal activity.'

I agree but not everyone knows how to set up vpns etc so they will just stop using forums like bl for fear of incrementing themselves .but do the police really have the resources to deal with this type of stuff if we are to believe them they are already stretched to capacity .Scotland has the hate crime bill and the police weren't to thrilled when that came into action.they have laws in place to deal with any hate crime to begin with

The facial recognition stuff is probably done by AI? But there's laws been passed recently about 'online flashing' though, so you could potentially get done for that if the AI picks up on it, or if a human does see it?

I like the subversion of the stupid policy though.

Other people are uploading face pics from specific computer games to successfully get past the gate keepers. Surely it's AI doing the gate keeping in those cases.

It was fun while it lasted but there ain't no way I'm sticking my puss/face online for god knows who to see .who's to say that some online whizz kid won't try and black mail you if say you were gay and threaten to expose you to your work or in some cases family .
