Info custom titles

hey all,

we noticed there were quite a few custom titles floating around. it looks like some were awarded, for reasons now lost in the mists of time, a long time ago. we've removed most of them leaving a couple of three that were awarded more recently.

we're going to start tracking custom titles better.

if you had a custom title and it's gone, you had a good innings! if you have a custom title and it's still there, we'll revert it 6 months from today.

going forward, we encourage staff to create fun, competitive, etc. threads which can reward bluelighters with a custom title and which they can wear with pride for 6 months. we're also quite happy to award bluelighters custom titles for specific events, or just to recognize them for quality forum contribution.

if you have an idea for a custom title, just talk to the forum staff in the appropriate forum. here on, custom titles will be reverted after 6 months.

Tonight @Shinji Ikari 's congratulations title was removed due to the time limit expireing and it seemed to hit hm hard - he did indicate being slightly altered when geting the news which could contribute, but it made me think that it could be worth considering allowing users to request an extention if desired, particulary if they've continued to demonstrate positive contributions to the community. Shinji's always been a friendly and positive presence that cares about this place, so far as I've experienced. His title has honestly been synonymous to his name and profile pic in my mind.

Obviously - these are small things of little significance and 'attachment is the root of all suffering" and all of that.... But as ali often points out - we're not landing planes here. I think it's worth considering that if a user has an affinity for a title and it's not causing anyone an issue to keep it, it could at least be an option.

I realize this thread is 6 months out of date - I admittedly had no idea what you were asking about when this thread popped up over the summer and as a result, didn't think much on it. THere's often so many pieces of data that fly by - emails, notifciations, texts.... it's easy to miss stuff. The only reason I even caught this tonight was that I happened to be in a thread when Shinji mentioned the title change and feeling sad about it.

Frankly - I don't know why this particular thing has made me want to bring up this issue, but I've always appreciated Shinji and I feel like we can all use a little joy and grace these days - maybe this is one way to do it.

So - my proposal is that users can request extensions at the end of their 6 months and barring any behavioral issues or major reason why a title shouldn't be continued, we offer the opportunity to extend it in 6 month intervals.

It meant a lot to me, it was much more than an anime reference and it's difficult to explain what it meant and why it feels like such an important part of my identity as a bluelighter. It has layers, a greeting to my friends here, a tribute to those I've lost and still have, and a reminder of where I've come from where I am and where I need to go.

I was advised 6 months ago that I would be losing the title and the reasoning was clearly explained so I can't say it's unfair, it isn't and I accept the decision.

Well anyway.

Congratulations friends. You've self actualised and chosen life. Embrace every moment

Btw I elected to start with a FMAB rewatch because I’m sick with either a bad flu or covid and it’s a comfort show.
Gonna finally finish FMA 2003 after that and then I will finally watch NGE!

EDIT: I’m listening to a podcast and they mentioned evangelion as I was reading about the creation of Shinji’s character… getting me to watch NGE has to be a psyop at this point

You know, I'm not much for anime, or rather it's not my preferred genre. But I very much enjoyed NGE, and recently rewatched all of it. Worth a watch for sure.

Hideaki Anno did the animation of the giant warrior in Nausicaa in the 80s IIRC. Talented artist. Very visceral.
