the market: stocks, bonds, options, whatever

Well damn IONS I thought I was doin good till you had to post that meme...... Not even top 50% of the US........Gets rope and stool. (haha joking 100%) I do not have that in cash ATM though.

May I ask how you are doing this year Electrum? (I use you as the gold bar for stock success)

Thujone -- makin it by on 1400 a month in a 3 bedroom house with 40 acres. Not making it by well by any means -- especially since I just lost medicaid if I interpreted correct. (Tell ya in 2 days when I see the dentist); sorry meant to ask where roughly you live -- the cost of living varies so much state to state. (and usually with good reasons)

I'm in Toronto, where there's a been a housing bubble for years.

Canada is like 99.9% flyover country so demand is very sticky in Ontario where most of the opportunities are.

If you go to Zillow and zoom in on Buffalo NY then you can see side by side cost of homes on the Canada side and US side.

not rich. richer.

i feel like that's exactly the point of thee statement...

alasdair

right, but it's a misleading statement about relative wealth, because it's not accounting for expenses.

in accounting, one of the first lessons is that you deduct liabilities from assets, so if you have $4210 but your expenses are $4210 then you really have net $0, leaving you poorer than someone with just $10 and no liabilities.

now $4210 that is unspoken for and can be invested in equities that pay dividends in perpetuity... that, i would call rich

Real rap. That IVES etf doesn’t look too bad I might throw in. Somewhat worried about a Cathy wood ARKK situation though lol

Yeah lol truth
People forget that there’s billions and billions of people outside of North America and Western Europe and they don’t have much money at all

glad I found this place

4 grand is about what my silver holdings are at rn. About 600k in total holdings here not including home equity; medium cost of living city on the east coast and I am not an old man lol. Work in business intelligence/analytics in the finance industry. happy to give advice where anyone wants it cause I’m not a asshole contrary to popular belief.😂 thread oughta be way more active than it is but oh well

My primary strategy for long term is buy and hold VOO, VBK and VPU with dividend reinvestment, short and medium term I have an account that sell covered call options on stocks with good liquidity/outlook and collect premiums. Easy. I don’t fuck around with buying options or leveraged funds anymore, been burned too much in the past

I’m eying up getting some physical Palladium as a lottery ticket of sorts. Used to be more expensive than gold and I smell a comeback. Never thought I’d make it this far to begin with and I can’t speak for anyone else who’s successful but once you’ve “made it” you tend to get bored and start wanting to do fun shit like that ahah.

i do donate but it’s just not something I care about that much. Sometimes I’ll buy a junkie a meal and large drink and talk with em if they take me up on the offer. never give them cash for drugs no way. Giving money to some foundation that isn’t even in the us or something is stupid and…not for me like I said. Even wounded warriors I don’t trust and I’d rather just donate directly which I’ve done many times to the families officers that were wounded/killed in the line of duty here

Investing in small cap companies kind of is donating to a degree lol, but with the expectation that the favor will be returned.

I don’t do drugs anymore for fun I’m on 1-2mg of Bupe a day and sometimes pop a Halcion when I can’t sleep that’s it. I’ve always had a knack for money but recently got way more into collecting physical metals after letting the drugs go

Anyway yeah. Success comes with hard work sometimes luck too sure but that’s life. Do the best with what you got and it’s pretty easy to be above average.

It’s 2025. Brokerages offer FREE trades and they even let you purchase fractional shares. APMEX and JMB sell amounts of gold all the way down to a single gram for a little over a hundred bucks. No excuses not to invest ever

@Electrum1 I know you’re big on metals we’ve chatted silver before. All I have right now is a small stack of 10oz RCM bars. Very non-diverse collection lol I made it so that’s my solo silver holding but I may snag a 20-tube of Asahi rounds

@ions I saw you posted some silv rounds in a lounge thread a few weeks back keep that shit going man. I can hook you up with a place for mega cheap capsules if you’re interested in protecting em but for investment purposes there’s generally no point as dealers have their predetermined bid prices set anyway
Ahh also. My biggest investment regret:

Writing off crypto and calling it stupid when it first came out.

Oh that ain’t all. I doubled down after BTC and ETH blew up and continued thinking this even well into 2022 🤣

To this day I’ve got maybe $20 worth of bitcoin in my coinbase wallet. Everytime I think of just jumping in I make that rookie ass mistake of assuming I missed the boat and the best is over

Can someone please talk me into just opening a Kraken account and splitting up 5-10 grand between decent crypto? I feel like Bitcoin and ethereum are the only good ones? 😆😂😂

These exorbitant rents almost always seem to be in close proximity to shit-holes with terrible politics. NYC and San Fran come to mind immediately lmao. 2.5k monthly to have your packages stolen and car broken into. Some schizophrenic maybe shitting on the street 2 blocks down for the trifecta 😂

Once I’m actually rich “enough” I’m building a ranch out in Wyoming and staying my ass there 6 months outta the year away from…trendy culture lol

Rents have gone crazy everywhere it just looks worse in places where median income is also high but that drives demand and I guess a feedback loop when money can flow from anywhere in the world and real estate in politically stable countries is seen as safe place to launder some bennies and weibo funny money.

I never heard of Cathy Wood before ARKK dumped, but I work in tech and always considered Wedbush analysts to be the best informed so I have faith in the quality of IVES holdings

Sweet. I’m in the mood for kind of a long term potential lotto ticket

I’m penciled in for 30 shares of FXI tomorrow morning (Chinese stock market index) but I’ll probably go ahead and tack this on

i don't know how long term it is really, dan ives was interviewed on cnbc about this and he said his outlook for current growth rates was about two more years.

i'm planning to dump it next year because i think there will be some consolidation, there's been a lot of acquisitions happening so that to me is a signal the smaller players have been worried about their long-term outlook.

Id buy against the market -- there is one guy in particular that seems hellbent on tanking it. So gold and what is up with that BRIC currency backed by gold -- what's the exchange rate look like there lol

Im spanish and I dont understand all but I can tell yo what a crypto expert said. TAO, SUI, HYPE, SOL, AAVE and offcourse ETH and the king BTC

Aaaand a 3rd patient died in a SRPT trial. Glad I didn't buy any yesterday
I was eyein that when you mentioned it the first time lol. FDA wants to chalk that altogether now, looked like a sold one to buy puts on lol but I smell a de-listing at this point.

If you want a long term hold that’s beaten down right now go for United Health

Took my work bonus and blew 10 racks on platinum bullion. Argor-Heraeus ounce bars and anything left over on a little silver and $VPU calls

Farmland is a great investment in times of depression or crisis.
However Bill Gates owns 25% of US farmland.
and China another 20%.

I checked a year ago and there were vast tracts of US land that cost just $50/acre.

I just checked again. The same land is now selling for $150/acre.

I mean, I ASSUME it's just scrubland in the middle of nowhere but I think it's gone up more than gold.

markets are flyyyyying

Q2 earnings strong

seems like a lot of people are making really dumb calls now, meme stock mania is back :|

crypto is booming too... there's a lot of big finance money flowing into the ecosystem.

i'm not sure what the end game is for crypto but i'm starting to suspect that wall street wants it so they can control a market without any pesky regulations interfering in their grift.

i have the feeling that crypto collapse could be the next big black swan event. the lack of regulation makes it inevitable that there will be an event that shakes faith in the ecosystem.

strange times...

Sadly, I tend to agree.

I understand land, so to me land is a reasonable investment. Gold I don't understand as well so have avoided. Crypto I don't understand and therefore do not invest in.

But Grisham's law will, sooner or later, come to crypto. While I find the mining of coins to be perverse, I suppose I can in some way see the waste of resources is what is supposed to inject worth. But when people just launch a crypro, odds on it's a con. I find it hilarious that FUD is used to disparage others because Fact-finding, Understanding and Distrust are, I would deign to suggest, something any rational person would conclude.

@thujone - We should launch the 'Bluecoin' with amazing discounts for all the mods. Airdrop in free coins for any that waver in their support and we cashout at around the 36 hour mark.

I hope it's obvious to all that I am JOKING.

But the fact remains that more and more, scammers are trying to identify demographics who will buy into a crypto because it appeals to their beliefs. In this case, throw in a line that some huge but entirely fictional sum going to HR at some undetermined point in the future.

I loathe anyone who preys on the vunerabilites of others. Hope in it's many guises being the lever used. How do these people sleep at night?
