I’m seeking help with breaking bad habits such as drug addiction and tobacco by way of plant medicine in a private, safe setting. I’m located in the Western U.S. and looking for harm reduction resources, integration groups, or trusted communities where I can begin that journey.

Welcome Perry, you are starting perfectly in that you want some knowledge. That can start here by reading. Also Erowid is a great resource. My only concern is the trusted communities. Is there such a thing beyond friends and like minded people? I have never really heard of communities although don't go by me. I sort of only trust myself and a few other people when it comes to plants and psychedelics and I am naturally suspicious of communities.

You actually can do a lot on your own. I mean besides tripping with a friend of two a lot of us go solo only in that most people won't take a psychedelic.

Have some faith in yourself before you put your foot forward. Maybe start a low dose of mushrooms. These days even that can be strong. But the work is internal. And you are Your own best Guru and Shaman. You don't really need anyone else if you do the research. That is just my opinion. The next poster could point to a valid community so what do I know?

I very much agree with what @JackARoe is saying - you are your own best guide and teacher in psychedelic matters. By all means learn from those around you and resources you have access to (there's lots of wisdom on this here forum!) - but please excuse the pithy statement - the journey begins and ends with you.

Personally I've found magic mushrooms and 4-AcO-DMT to be very useful for looking at addiction and dependency in my own minor problems. I believe these substances can be helpful in working on more heavy cases as well. Ibogaine is famous for being a heavy-duty addiction solvent, but it does have some higher risks as well and probably not something to turn to right off the bat, and definitely something to use under supervision.

Agree that one should be careful with trusting strangers to guide one on these things.

I know several good people who hold various spaces with different plants though.
However its a sketchy space and many people do it for just an income or even real nefarious reasons.

I would avoid anyone who just welcomes anyone in or even run some kind of ads.
If anything a group that is invite only and actually vets people could be a good idea.
