Opioids šŸ‡²šŸ‡½ Chronic pain medication in Mexico

I have to agree. Canada could be a good option. They have "safe supply", meaning you go to a doc, say you are addicted to pain meds, piss dirty and get a bottle of dilaudid for example.

I am not familiar with US politics and politicians, but I allways wondered why do you have only two parties to chosse between. Why? Is there any historical reason? Also in UK is usually about tories versus laboralist, but I know that there are another parties there, like liberals or the Nigel Farage one

Another question, if you US mates don't mind me asking: Do other parties, in the left or the right spectrum, beyond Reps and Dems exist? I mean, they do legally exist? are they allowed to call demostrations, if they have headquarters and all those things that legal political parties have?

Would a person be allowed to create a, say, Oregon secesionist party, or a fascist or a communist one? Would it be possible according to US laws?
We have all sorts of parties. As long as they commit no crimes or insight riots. Even then we have political freedom, in theory and the fringe parties get no where.

The United States has a winner take all political system so it favors having 2 major parties. Other parties are legal and are on the ballot, there's even a couple in the US Congress. They're much more common in state legislatures, but still not really a major political force anywhere. The US Presidential race usually has candidates from the Green and Libertarian parties on ballots in most of the 50 states.

It's also important to note that the Republicans and Democrats were not always the 2 dominant parties. At previous times the Whigs and others were dominant--the Republican party did not even exist in a major form until the 1860 election. If you look at a list of Presidents' political parties you'll see a lot more variety pre-Civil War. Things got more and more set after that.

I believe there is a Texas secessionist party still. Fringe parties are legal but they're still restricted by the laws of the nation. They've previously been restricted by democratic norms and traditions as well, but lately the Republicans have really wrecked a lot of those.

Do you think it’s ever going to get better for us pain patients & pain medication? … it’s become so insane, like medieval or something.

No, unfortunately it will get worse as the older generation of physicians who retain some common sense and empathy die out. Younger providers continue to obsess over ā€œdrug seekers,ā€ treat serious pain with dumb things like gabapentin and antidepressants. There will be a lot more suicides related to untreated pain eventually. I am scared of growing old quite frankly. They would rather people kill themselves or go to methadone clinics than to treat with compassion, common sense and dignity.

This makes me so sad 😪
I just don’t think I’ll ever understand it, I really mean that. I’ve had doctors treat me terribly and then I’ve had others that looked like they were about to cry and apologizing saying ā€œI wish I could help you more with your pain but my hands are tiedā€ …. I mean, I don’t know … it just feels like bizarro world. There are chronic pain groups where I’ve seen people who have said their doctors told them to just go to an addiction center or methadone clinic and tell them you have an opioid addiction so they can give you methadone for your pain. Like people are literally having to lie and say they have an addiction that they don’t have to get some pain relief. The fact that people are being encouraged to lie about their health from doctors to just get pain relief … I mean … I guess I’m just really sad about it all. Also seeing people prescribed heavy amounts of NSAIDS with no care for their inner organs. It’s like you basically have a doctor telling you ā€œHere take all these NSAIDS every day and if you end up on dialysis ten to twenty years from now I won’t be held liable or accountable for that … but if I help you out with an opioid (even if it genuinely helps give you a little more quality of life) I could loose my license.ā€

Sorry I may be rambling a bit … just what I’ve seen happening to people is so very wrong.

Everything you say is accurate and true unfortunately. Very sad.

Hi I was wondering if anyone living in Mexico can give me insight on opioid prescribing for chronic pain in Mexico.

I am planning to leave the US permanently since opioids are essentially banned here for chronic pain now. To give you an idea I live in a city of 3 million people and only 3 pain specialists remain that have not had their schedule 2 license stripped.

Pharmacies all refuse to fill opioids. Doctors all refuse to prescribe them.

Anyways I have a permanent health issue and I’m getting older and I’ve decided it’s worth leaving everything I’ve built behind for freedom that America promised but didn’t deliver.

Are acquiring opioid prescriptions difficult in Mexico? Are the doctors in fear of the government imprisoning them for prescribing like in the US?

Do the pharmacies always have shortages like in the US?

In sum, is it extremely strict and policed? The prescribing of opioids for pain in Mexico?

I understand Mexico is a big place with different states and different levels of urban vs rural development, any geographical insight you can offer in regards to this issue is also greatly appreciated.

I also need access to a specialist for something else that isn’t a pain doctor, so I would have to be near a major city to access specialist doctors…not just prescribing doctors.

I’ve visited and spent a lot of time in Merida and Cancun and more recently Baja. Baja seems too rural but Cancun and Merida are appealing. Any insight at all as to any part of the country and this issue are appreciated

Feel free to PM me also.
I know you’re talking about Mexico but when I was in Belize about a year ago there was a pharmacy selling anything you could want over the counter ! Crazy. And it was legit

Yep. I had a surgery recently that was pretty serious and caused me to be in severe pain. The doctor initially put me on Tylenol and gabapentin. I was screaming in pain and threatened to tell the medical board. After that they finally gave me enough roxycodone and dilauded to help smh. These new doctors are idiots I must say.

A free country nice.

And this hasn’t resulted in a Belize fentanyl epidemic either I’m guessing like we attribute in the US?

It’s nice to know that when I finally get completely fucked over by this shit hole country we pay tens of thousands of healthcare per year that is never rendered; there are free countries to escape too.
I’d love to move too. That’s why I love traveling so much ! Seeing how free these other country’s are definitely makes me want to move more.
