Ketamine - somewhat experienced - failed K hole :(

i've done ketamine lightly (depending on how you define lightly lol) every other weekend for the past couple months. i know a lot of people avoid k holes, and i think if you're doing k in a social setting like a rave or a party that makes sense; i've always been careful in such settings not to overdo it bc i don't want my friends to have to deal with me getting too fucked up. that being said, i really enjoy psychedelics, and i'm very experienced with lsd and psilocybin, and while i'm aware that a k hole is another beast entirely, i've been very intrigued by how i've heard it described before.
all that being said, i've decided to attempt to k hole. notice that i said "i've" in the present tense --this hasn't happened yet. well, it has by the time you're reading this, but for me right now typing this, the k hole will begin very soon. i've just cut a decent sized line (i've not weighed it, dumb, i know, but i don't have access to a scale at the moment), and my house is empty for the night. it's a beautiful rainy night, with thunder rumbling softly outside my bedroom window, and i've set up an hour long playlist (radiohead, massive attack, air, portishead, the beatles, etc) of some of my favorite music. i've got a large glass of water at my bedside within arm's reach, and dim, warm lighting.
9:00pm: line is down the hatch! now we wait :>
9:04: burning in nose, bitter taste lol
9:04: slight pressure in forehead, not unpleasant, nice buzz
9:06: massive attack - angel sounds amazing, buzz intensifying, rain sounds beautiful
9:08: high intensifying i imagine i wont be able to type much longer
9:14: definitely very high, but worried i've developed a tolerance... might redose soon, hoping to k hole.
9:17: got up, got glass of water, realized that if i can do that i should take more lol
9:18: redose - slightly smaller line
9:23: had to turn brightness down to type this, words feel too close to my face lol. this is the last of my k, so i hope i haven't developed too much of a tolerance to properly k hole with what i've got.
9:30: face tingling and twitching, forgot what i was gonna write
9:45: decided to stand up (very difficult) and light some incensce, its really hard moving through space, feels like swimming
9:56: yea i'm counting this as a fail :/ i'm fucked up, but definitely not a full out of body experience like i was expecting/hoping for. sucks because this was a perfect night for it, but i still had a great time lying in bed listening to music (i am convinced the song "the rip" by portishead is about/designed for k) and feeling my bed shift breathe with me as i sink deeper and deeper into it. maybe next time i have some k i'll be more careful and try not to blow it all clubbing and going to parties and raves instead of saving it for a full k hole experience. gonna just smoke some weed and try to enjoy the rest of my high, but sadly the people who warned me abt tolerance going up quickly w k were right, no k hole here :( if anyone has any advice pls lmk!!

A tip: take your line, put on music, lay down and close your eyes/put on a sleep mask.
If you try this I think you could hole with the same dosage (maybe take both lines at the same time, half for each nostril) and it'll probably help if you give your tolerance some time to get down again.
It's hard to k hole while you're doing stuff like typing or concentrating on a phone. Just put away all the distractions.
Also meditate/ deep breathing for a while before taking the lines, that will help calm you down and not be distracted.

Have a notebook or voice recording app available to document the experience directly after waking up! It's a bit like dreams, they slip away quick if you don't document it. I've found it helps to say it out loud even of you don't have any means to write in down/record it.

thank you for the tip !! i hadn't considered that it could have something to do with the fact that i was trying to write about it in real time, though in retrospect, that makes a lot of sense. it wasn't as though i expected to be able to type during the k hole itself, but i thought it could be interesting to document the onset. i think you're right --because i was focused on writing i wasn't relaxed enough, and my mindset impacted my experience. gonna try and give my tolerance some time and then make a second attempt with this in mind :>
 
I definitely second aesthetic_addict’s comment. K holes can be induced at lower doses by laying down, putting some music on, and closing your eyes, this helps you lose track of your body and begin to drift. However, holes at lower doses tend to be more fragile and easier to disturb, where they disintegrate like dust off a moth wing.

One thing that could help (if it works with your physiology) is THC. I have always found it colors dissociative trips, really bringing out the visual aspects and making it quite a bit stronger.

I wouldn’t expect tolerance to come into play with your experience, as NMDA antagonist tolerance is glacial. Takes quite a while to set in, and then lasts quite a long time. After some point holes really lose their luster, and you give up chasing your tail. This however, takes years of intermittent-regular use (like 3-10 times/year).

The last piece of advice is to be prepared to consume more. Prepare more than you think you will need in multiple lines and work your way up slowly. Don’t do it all at once, but maybe stack every 10-15 minutes until things get extremely weird. As long as you aren’t mixing with other downers including alcohol, benzos, or opioids, K has a pretty large therapeutic index.

Finally, don’t chase the dragon for too long. K has a way of being fairly psychically compelling, and there seems to be an individual lifetime dose level which correlates with permanent bladder damage. Keep it as a treat, and if you find yourself needing higher and higher amounts of K to hole, then maybe it’s time to say farewell.
