Will i see a decent government before i die?

until told otherwise.

This reminds me of a German word:
Obrigkeitsdenken.
I think they attributed this to right wing people back then when I first heard it. No idea how it's nowadays. But I feel like today it's the left which wants people to walk the line.

… yet Reform are set to win in the UK as polls stand currently 8(

Nah - they've no chance. I know there will be fucking polls and council votes that go their way but I've seen Labour win council seats right from the days of Thatcher - it never translates to the general election. Labour used to win big council seats and be going "We've got it this time lads!!" and then lose by a mile.

Labour looked goosed

Labour are in shambles, so are the Tories. I don’t think it impossible that Reform could sneak in when the voter base are so polarised with no obvious “good” option available

Yes they are mostly protest votes buoying them in the polls, but both angry Labour and Tory voters seem to pick Reform when they see no better option. Nightmare scenario but definitely possible imo.

I had to use Google translate but it sounds like an older word for autocracy? Or those loyal to it? Also reminds me of ideas like cultural hegemony or dominant ideology from sociology classes in college. Learning new words is always fun.

Here's the thing...

I know I always say "politics are fucking stupid", but I actually quite enjoy political history. I built half my degree around the emergence and growth of fascism and communism in the 20th century and found it all rather fascinating, but as far as the 21st century is concerned the left and the right and all the overly opinionated pseudo enlightened dongs outside and in-between can eat my farts (nobody in this thread though you all rock❤️).

This thread is mostly friendly brit-banter but a lot of people around the world especially the perpetually online sincerely buy into and obsess over this perceived left vs right divide and all the animosity that comes with it like one or the other winning an election somewhere is somehow going to bring the end of the world and I don't think buying into that kind of mentality is a healthy way to live. Honestly it kind of feels like a waste of life, to me anyway. ymmv. I guess my political orientation is apathy...

If nothing else reform being elected might be less boring than another 70-year round of blue vs red but I imagine they'd just end up moderating their stance somewhat to increase the size of their net and end up becoming the new blue. Or they fumble and bumble their way through a single term and end up inadvertently resurrecting the old blue team in time for the next general.

I would trust Nigel with the economy more than 2 teir.

Not even the economy imo. Especially not the economy in fact.

What’s Tory economic policy? Austerity

What’s Labour economic policy? Austerity but just a modicum more austere than the Tories.

What’s Reform economic policy? Austerity to levels previously unimaginable even to the other parties.

I don’t believe in austerity as being a viable or even useful economic policy. In fact I’d say it directly creates economic problems. So essentially I wouldn’t trust any of ‘em with the economy… but especially not Reform.

Reform have said that they would take all lower paid jobs out of tax completely. That would certainly help fight austerity.

You seem to think austerity is happening regardless

🤣🤣. Don't think so. Lol

I know so and so would you if you did some basic research.

That aside, how is he planning to find these supposed tax cuts for working people? By privatising everything - especially the NHS.

They are as far from being good for the British people as it is possible to be.

Ok we'll stick with labour instead then
