I'm 40-something nowIf you're 40 years old, or getting on for it, the damage that cigs can cause from then on can be irreparable. Even if it can take decades to manifest. (But no matter how old you are it's obviously always beneficial to quit.)
I read that if you quit before the age of 30, the body can completely heal itself to a point as if you'd never smoked. It can take 5 years for this healing process to complete, but it's still astonishing. And if is true, that is fucking amazing imho, what the body can do. It's like you get a free pass to abuse your body for 15 years or so, in the prime of your youth.
(I guess evolution has made our bodies super resilient, and able to withstand all sorts of abuse or punishment, but only up to a point.....)
But the older you are, and the longer the habit has gone on for, the more urgent it becomes to quit. Of course there'll always be the people who smoke well into their old age and remain "as fit as a fiddle", but they are a minority, and smoking will kill 50% of people who carry on past 40, 50, 60 etc.
I know everyone already generally knows all this kind of stuff.
The worst of the nicotine cravings are over within 24 hours, with days 2 and 3 still making themselves known, but not as strongly, but from then on, it gets so much easier. Once most of the nicotine has left your body it breaks the continual cycle of smoke, crave another cig 45 minutes later, and on and on and on
It seems logical to me that cigs should be quit first, in view of the harm caused, but i know how alcohol can amplify nicotine cravings, so you might have to quit both for some time, until you're 'out of the woods'.
Unfortunately I've some close to home experience of an Auntie, who was a very heavy smoker, taken by lung cancer in her early to mid 50s, and also my Grandad whose lungs were in a dire state, didnt make it past 62, due to cancer and heart disease. (You should have heard his morning ritual of coughing and hawking fits, Christ it was brutal and sickening! What a way to have to start your days! But even that didn't stop me smoking, fool that I was/am.)
But if you really want to quit these things, it's really not that hard once you get you mind set on it. That is what makes or breaks it without any doubt, and that is 99% of the battle ime.
I found that with cigs anyway, not currently finding that so easy for kratom, as it's serving a very useful purpose for me. It's like coffee, only much better, with the energy and mood uplift, but it's unfortunate that it acts via the opiate receptors though, as that makes dependence and w/d that little bit harder! (Or is that just a convenient excuse I'm making for myself.)
Still when a pack Fags is so expensive as imaginable. There is no way I could have quit smoking cigarettes before I quit drinking alcohol. Impossible.
YMMV
That was irrelevant in my case.Still when a pack Fags is so expensive as imaginable.
Its not that hard i assure you, Alcohol cheaper then Tobacco.
I'm an alcoholic.Got to Tobacco so far, but my drinking is way less.
