in the interests of transparency, i was trying to fix an issue mal had with reacting to dm messages and screwed up all his permissions.

don't assume something is the result of malevolence or malice when good old incompetence is the cause :)

If you jabberwocky your account admins can login to the jabberwocky account and read your PMs, because all of your PMs get merged into that account as well.

and unfortunately a former admin did just that and thoroughly violated my privacy. Not only my PM's, but others as well.

The jabberwocky is no longer in use, and I mass deleted all of its DM's. Which is kinda important context there.

when you quote a message, the quoted text is formatted and added to your post. as such, you can edit any part of your message, the quote included (as i did here, for clarity).

but, the important thing is that the quote links back to the original post which the quoter can not edit.

there have been a couple of mentions of past transgressions and breaches of trust involving the jabberwocky account. we want to confirm that the jabberwocky system is no longer in use and all direct messages associated with that account have been deleted to ensure there is no potential for abuse.

in february 2025 we installed a new member self delete add-on which enables bluelighters to delete their own accounts. the "Delete account" feature is accessed via the 'Your account' link (your avatar and username at the top right of any bluelight page):

from there, you'll be asked to confirm. if you agree and click the "Delete account" button, your account will be scheduled for deletion in 14 days i.e.

if you change your mind, you can cancel the deletion using the 'Your account' link within the 14 day period.

Yeah, we corrected that. There are still a couple other ways a rogue admin could accomplish the same goal though, without jabberwocky. The more concerning thing for me is why was the individual guilty of that breach allowed to remain in a top leadership position for several months after their crimes had been uncovered?

The only answer I ever got was "to tie up loose ends and make sure discord staff isn't left in disarray". I'm not sure that takes 5 months though... then you add in the fact that I was removed with zero warning and given no such courtesy to tie up loose ends or help find staff replacements... I certainly didn't do anything as bad as abusing staff resources to spy on our members.

Hopefully current admin team can approach this with transparency rather than deleting this post or banning me. My many attempts at seeking details privately for the cause of my removal (and the manner in which it was done compared to other recent admin removals) have been met with silence.
