What do to in NYC?

I'm gonna be visiting New York for a few days in a couple months. I have not been in quite some time.

Any ideas for fun things to do or check out while I'm there?

Also, I would like to see some music, can be EDM, or anything really. Does anybody know of any good venues I could check into, to see if there's any events happening?

Look for like cool community markets that let like art people sell what they create. You can find pretty sick stuff but you may have to leave Manhatten. Brooklyn used to have a fixed gear bicycle music like art flea market. I went in 2018 I highly doubt that still exists because people can barely pay rent in nyc right now. If your into street bicycles there are really cool shops with rare stuff i bought an italian "aimed to the ground" track frame from a shop. Also vinyl shops and like book shops in lower east side. Eat at like cool restaurants with food you cannot get in your local area. I like getting falafel or anything from a Greek or Turkish place. Korean barbecue and some Japanese places are also good.

The last few times I've gone I was helping senior citizens move lol and like sitting in a hotel with family so hope you enjoy.

Man, I really am looking forward to the food aspect of this. It's gonna be a really awesome spring for me I think, got a lot of fun stuff planned. Hope I'm able to find a cheapish hotel, so I can have a little more ready for seeing stuff and exploring
 
Nowadays in Queens is pretty good for electronic music, and I am seconding knockdown center.

I use the website resident advisor to find shows. It is kind of biased towards techno but they usually list a pretty big range of big and small acts.

There is so much good food, what neighborhoods will you be in, and what kind of food excites you?

Resident advisor has a great database of events for house/techno/etc. A lot of the hip spots are going to be in Brooklyn, and there may even be some outdoor events given springtime being in full swing. I saw Four Tet at a huge event under the K bridge last year - was fucking dope.

The Lot Radio is also based in Brooklyn - they're a non-profit that uploads DJ sets to youtube/soundcloud for free - they feature local no-name folks up through huge globe trotting DJs/producers who come through and make a mix. It's such a dope project that provides free music and a way to discover people I may not have heard of.

Totally missed that you'd written this.

Great minds think alike! My wife used to live in Queens (Sunnyside). Some dope pizza memories from the times I spent visiting back in 2020.

No worries. I did undergrad in Long Island, and looking on RA to plan a Friday night out always just felt like the world was at our feet (after a ~2 hour train ride). I saw Helena Hauff in a warehouse after seeing one of those postings where you have to message the promoter to get in and it was magical.

I also got to see Demdike Stare and Andy Stott play at ANLG BKNY which was a dream come true for me.

For finding restaurants, I typically scan that city’s Eater, as they usually have good lists of places. I’d be remiss to not have include a pizza list, but I’ll also post the main nyc hub in case there is a specific cuisine you are after.

The location for the event still hasn't been determined, so I'm not sure yet and haven't gotten a hotel or anything.

I like Mexican, and Mediterranean foods primarily.
