Stimulants (Adderall) How much danger is my friend putting herself in?

I have a close friend who has recently picked up adderall as a habit, she says it helps her lock in with school (something she's been struggling with lately despite her 4.0+ gpa in recent years), and that that is it. Honestly she's the most undiagnosed ADHD person I've ever met, but her parents were born outside of the country and don't really understand that stuff, or will look into it. I'm rather concerned for her for a few reasons

- I think she is at high risk for addiction; she is addicted to nicotine and marijuana, and has questionable drinking habits (like once she starts she can't stop type of thing)
- She is getting it through a different kid at school that I know (who is a cocaine addict) and he gets his stuff from TOR; and does not fentanyl test.

Even though she's telling me that she is only gonna be using it for when she needs it (like before studying for an important test, stuff like that), her use has seemed to ramp up significantly in just the past 2 weeks she's had access. I'm worried about two possible things

- This dude that she's getting her adderall from doesn't test and is too stupid to notice if there's something off with his drugs, so I'm worried he's gonna sell her a fake pill one day and it is gonna have fentanyl or some other bullshit in it, and she's gonna end up overdosed
- She's gonna keep on using adderall and sinking her money into it, and then at a certain point realize that for her purposes, cocaine is cheaper (she doesn't have much money, I believe that the money she's using to buy adderall right now is stolen from her, albeit rich, family), and get on that to help her "lock in" or whatever. and thennn she's gonna be a coke addict

This girl is honestly very smart in school stuff, her mind is rather impressive, and she's actually a rather happy person, not depressed or nothing, so I believe that she's not like doomed to be an addict or anything but, the stuff she's doing is making me really worry for her safety. can someone tell me if im freaking out for nothing, or if i should keep on pushing and try to convince her that her path should either be getting a formal ADHD diagnosis in some way, and stop doing 3rd party adderall? Another potential path is telling the guy she's getting her adderall from to stop selling to her (I'm kinda friends with him, he would stop I think if I explained to him), because that gets rid of the ease of access, but then I'm worried she'd start getting it from an even sketchier source or just switch to some other even worse drug.

sure no one on this site is gonna recommend any one take any random dark web stuff.

maybe your friend isn't as happy as you'd think if they have all of those drug habbits ad are willing to risk taking potentially unknown drugs. i really don't know what to say other than maybe refer her to resources on the net that tell the truth.. i'm gonna guess if they list the info the DEA seizes adderall that has meth or fentanyl in it. it's common... they shouldn't be risking this. i'd say to get a test kit themself, but honestly, people don't end up testing every pill and you never know if every pill is gonna be from the same batch. plus it's just not a good idea for your friend to get into adderall if she is undiagnosed... i'd say if she really needs it to study, recommend she try to get it from a doctor. that's not always the best path for everyone either. i've come across people in the psychward struggling with their adderall doses and addiction.

and he gets his stuff from TOR
Every single time I've paid less than $1/mg for Adderall on a DNM, it's resulted in a tablet containing methamphetamine, or predominantly methamphetamine with a small amount of amphetamine and caffeine mixed in. Your friend has likely developed an oral methamphetamine problem. Imo, the best move would be to grab your friend some Simon's reagent and show her how to use it to identify the presence of methamphetamine.

I doubt you need to worry about her becoming a cocaine addict as cocaine is quite different from amphetamines and vastly more expensive. More likely she will turn to meth, which is stronger and cheaper than Adderall pills. That’s assuming that the pills she thinks are Adderall are not actually meth already.

If she’s going to use stimulants anyway then getting them directly from the doctor would be far superior so there’s no reason she shouldn’t try to get a proper diagnosis and prescription. But personally, I would not interfere with her life beyond providing test strips or reagents. I think the best thing that you can do is honestly talk to her about your concerns and tell her you want to help her use in the safest manner.

Thanks for the response. I did some research and found that it has been methamphetamine; something that previously didn't even come to my mind.

Even normal amphetamine is still pretty garbage for daily consumption given that monoamine releasers daily is almost universally considered unwise. If Ritalin, bupropion, caffeine, coca tea, etc. don't scratch the stimulant itch for her, there aren't many healthier ones I can think of.

Another note about the regular use of monoamine releasers is that they exhibit wicked intense exhaustion and difficulty focusing for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months after use like you described. I know people who've dealt with it for years after using amphetamines for a few years on and off, myself included.

Strongly agree.
