It burs-ted into flames serious, so no way to salvage ?I'm sorry to bug people but my PC just died in a remarkably spectacular manner. I kept my passwords in a .txt document ON that PC.
The flames have died down, the fire service has dumped my old PC outside my home and I'm not back - with an extra dimention.
I do apologize to anyone who has PMed me or otherwise interacted with me. But I am regularly told that my distinctive writing style is something of a giveaway.
I will continue to do my best to provide the narrow but rare skillset my wasted education provided for me.
Whats bricked ? Needle in the groove stuck. If you still have a physical hard drive and it is "bricked" look in to Gibson's spin rite:
Spin-Rite
Here is an "old school" data recovery tool that works absolute wonders. I've been using it since the 1980's; the author wrote it in assembly and maintains it to this day. You don't even need an operating system because it boots it's own and works on the drive onthe hardware / magnetic domain detection level and can recover drives that have multiple grey bits, bad sectors and FATs. The same software works on SSD's as well. This software got me out of a lot of pain for clients that needed their data and didn't back it it up.
It may take a long time to complete the task, depending on how damaged it is, but I seldom have seen it fail.
Yeah, well just trying to help. Fact is, it is not Linux or any other OS replacement. It is a tool that fixes storage devices that no longer boot or that have data loss; and it works on any drive regardless of what OS it was formatted for. It works on the hardware level.Whats bricked ? Needle in the groove stuck.
Then Ubuntu won t help. Afaik.
Is it even better then LINUX for this purpose, never heard of it.
UBUNTU/ LINUX is continuously updated, seems a advantage ?
With UBUNTU installation disk choose the try out option, not install !
See if it sees your HD, i saved so many peoples lost files.
As their Windows gave up. Sound about the same as Spin-Rite.
Using only The mem to function as OS. And its 1-2-3 done.
A 70 + looked me doing it, and called me after i salvaged Musea stuff.
He himself succeeded in my footsteps retrieving marriage pic of his daughter.
So its not hard, or he was a 70+ genious PC born NERD.
Without knowing.
What s 'Bricked' ? One of my HD got the needle pinned in the groove.Yeah, well just trying to help. Fact is, it is not Linux or any other OS replacement. The big drawback is that it samples the media repeatedly to resolve grey bits; that takes time. Serious time, like hours or even a day if it's extensive. There is a line beyond which data cannot be retrieved, but that is usually due to physical damage.
It's not widely known because it's not really directed at the average consumer, but for data retrieval and IT use, plus anyone that needs to retrieve data that has been lost or damaged, like Healthcare and Diagnostic Imaging, and agencies like the NTSB or FBI . I know about it because that a fairly large part of what I did before I retired.
Please feel free to ignore it![]()
what's bricked...What s 'Bricked' ? One of my HD got the needle pinned in the groove.
is that bricked, Then only a Forensic Police lab.
You worked in such a place a dust free zone to break the vaccum HDs ?
Cool job. Or a commercial company which can retrieve it at a enormous cost.
Other wise UBUNTU seems the easier way. takes minutes max an hour.
What do you guess i been doing in-between postingwhat's bricked...
maybe the inter webs might help
But whatever solution floats your boat, just do it ...
That's why it's a PERSONAL COMPUTER ...
You do you![]()
Me too, except mine is another color ( not saying what color in case any of you fiends fixing to break into my house)
oh there it was. i guess i'm not downloading again
..... and i'm delayed
--- sry again
and sorry that you lost your password.
i guess it's better to have had a password, then to have never had a password at all
right lulz
Well, it's nice that people who I have conversed with at length are able to work out it's me purely based on my writing style.
I know my posts may appear pedantic but I'm only ever tryng to ensure that what I write cannot be misunderstood. I always bear in mind Wittegenstein's statment regarding writing. 'The limit of my language is the limit of my world'.
Double plus points from me for being pernickity with language and quoting Wittgenstein.
Dang, there goes my $50 in savingsToo late. I already broke in and stole your notebook. Now I'm gonna scam all your friends and relatives.
A 16 digit number in a series of four 4 digit codes, easy to remember and very secure. Its a bitch when this happens, as much as i try to not entrust any passkey to a computer connected to the internet and memorise all my passkeys i always save a few "daft" sites passwords and end up losing them ffsPassSentence may work better than a Pass Word.
Just a thought. But probably will have to include a % or a number.
I guess you have to be a Genius. Yes it's really food for thought YumYumYummy1
4DQ is good. What a fun(ny) thread. Lools.
Glad you got it back somehow.
I really am.What can I say. Remember to make a sentence then. lool.
