are people still finding decent quality poppy seeds?

Back in 2021 I was able to get pretty good quality poppy seeds from online, in shops, etc. But getting back into it now and find everything is bunk. Best I've found are still pretty weak, nothing like what used to be available. Even the ones that are described as unwashed and look ok visible aren't that strong at all.
 
It's been shit for the last year or more. Very difficult to find anything decent, and even more difficult to consistently find something decent. It's atrocious ATM.
 
The usual brands in the red packets at Coles supermarkets aren't as good as they once were?

Nay. They are now imported seeds and are sucky.

It irritates the shit out of me that those particular items have "100% Australian owned" and "Product of Australia" all over the labels, and then you find a little note that reads "Packed in Australia from imported ingredients". How is a product of Australia, then?

Oh damn... years and years ago when I occasionally made the 'smelly wet sock water' tea drink 3 of those packets did the job well!

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest now that you have mentioned it.

Perhaps Halif2 was not aware of this. I won't bring it up directly, but I am sure they will read these posts.
 
I won't name the website for sourcing sakes if that breaks rules, but very easily found on one of the most popular online shopping websites.

I only started experimenting with them because I wanted to see if the effects would be similar to H. PST is OK, but in comparison to H, oxys, etc I found it quite sickening on the stomach.
 
I understand why they did it but I really dislike that most seeds are washed these days. Now people trying to get high might need 10 times as much seeds to catch a buzz. This is dangerous because those people might end up with a 10 times overdose when they suddenly come across potent seeds.

I have found that the shit tier seeds don't have the desired effects regardless of how much you use. It's like either the magic is there or it isn't.

The tea market is awash with imported products (mostly from Holland or Hungary) and are generally bad. The worst thing is that newer stock of actual Aus grown stuff seems to frequently be bunk, like the processing has been changed. I've heard/read a dozen different theories of what's happened, but I've never seen any of these claims backed up.

Nope, it's all over now. I discovered PST during the great Rikodeine shortage of mid-2022. Kept me going through the riko shortage. But when the riko came back in stock I would alternate riko and PST. About two years later I noticed that my usual poppy seed eBay suppliers just weren't delivering the good stuff, and I went into withdrawal. I saw an addiction specialist in mid 2024 and I'm now on bupe patches. I'm glad I've finished with PST but the unintentional withdrawal (due to weak seeds) was really difficult to go through. A few have mentioned above that you can still find the good ones, but I have no idea where, and probably don't want to know.

It's been a total shit-fest for a year or more. There are long stretches of nothing, then a little flurry of good (or even great) stuff online, and then nothing. I'm mostly referring to online sales because I want to order bulk and repeatedly. You might still get lucky in-store somewhere, but during the shortages of mid-last year I tried a lot of places and it was slim pickings.

It doesn't really matter to me anymore anyway, but things are far away from the days of basking in the Sun stock of 2016 - 2019 or so. That was pretty peak, I reckon.
 
We had some solid glorious poppy for 8 months of pure joy. Same place has new seasonal changes but still pretty awesome nonetheless. Looking forward to the spring crop and basking in the Sierra Mountains!

There are people here saying that they have found good seeds, and I don't doubt what they say. The bigger issue, however, is that the whole PST 'thing' is not reliable anymore. For a very long time, you could reliably grab some jars or sachets from the supermarket and they'd do the trick. For bulk purchases, there were some stalwart brands (which I can't mention directly) but one was "Baker's XX" and another was "Sun XX". That latter one especially consistently churned out some of the best seeds I've ever had. Very strong, very long lasting, and pretty damn enjoyable.

For some people, myself included, PST represented an alternative to Subs, 'Done, or just withdrawals in times of need! For a good stretch of time I used only PST and only really used one or two suppliers. Quality did vary but was consistently high and would be enough to keep you well (unless you had a raging fent habit or something). This lasted years.

However, as of about three years ago, the reliability and consistency took a dive.

First there were Aus seeds which had been thoroughly washed and were essentially unusable as they were so weak. Then the market gradually switched over to imported seed stock (almost always from Holland and always low quality). I tried a lot of different places (both online and in-store) and wasted a lot of money during this frustrating time. For a time there were some good Indian seeds, but these were very inconsistent and sometimes even arrived rancid in broken packaging. There was some very strong Spanish seeds which were black as night, wet and clumpy, and had a very strong and off-putting smell. I never found these to be very satisfying but they were not bunk.

The worst development came maybe around a year ago when suddenly seeds which were labelled as Australian, and which looked, smelled, and mixed up exactly as expected, turned out to be 100% bunk. I have no idea what processing was done to achieve this, but if you made a batch of tea it all looked legit.... until you took a sip and there was zero bitterness. Just a kind of taste of tap water, dirt, and sometimes a soapy aftertaste. But absolutely no bitterness and no effects at all.

I hear ya. They started forcing the growers to produce strains with low morphine codeine to pass export inspections. Most complied the first couple years but the last 2 years we have been getting some pretty solid crops. Of course there is a huge demand so there are always going be a few bad actors to try and ruin it with bunk seeds.I happen to know 2 right now with very good seeds even though it's technically bunk season. The last 7 months were spectacular! Of course I just realized I'm posting in the wrong country lol. It's a US supplier. Awesome lady too!
