According to ChatGPT:
"Cimetidine, a known inhibitor of certain cytochrome P450 enzymes (especially CYP3A4), can increase the blood concentration of drugs that are metabolized by these enzymes, including alprazolam. The co-administration of cimetidine with alprazolam typically results in an increase in the peak plasma concentration (Cmax) of alprazolam.
Research suggests that cimetidine can increase the Cmax of alprazolam by about **30% to 50%**. This occurs due to the inhibition of alprazolam's metabolism, leading to slower clearance and higher plasma concentrations. However, the exact increase can vary depending on the dose of cimetidine and individual variations in metabolism.
It's essential to monitor for potential side effects or toxicity when combining these two medications, as higher alprazolam concentrations may enhance its sedative effects."
I'm honestly too lazy to confirm its statements as 30-50% sounds about accurate to me as well based on subjective experience. Definitely a great way to make the most out of one's supply. Also good for potentiating opiates as well such as oxycodone considering the metabolic pathways are similar. Not sure if you are into those or not, but I thought it worth mentioning in case anyone were to stumble across this thread and not know who would benefit from such knowledge. As far as it "not being worth it," that should never be used as a blanket statement for everybody considering 30% is rather substantial.
Let's say I have 100mg of alprazolam left in a stash and can't get any more for a couple months and my daily habit is 1.5mg per day. That will be gone in only 66 and a half days, right? Okay, so I buy some cimetidine and can effectively stretch the 100mg into 130mg which will last 86 and a half days. So, is it worth it or not? Like anything in life, its a matter of perspective.
Hope to have provided some more insight than you had prior to reading.
