Is this GHB? How can I test it?

So someone I know fell on hard times and stayed with me while he was in between homeless shelters and, when he left, he gave me a bag of items that weren’t allowed and I didn’t open this bag for a long time, but he hasn’t returned to claim it or mentioned it or anything, so my friend and I finally got too curious and he opened it. Amongst some other obvious items, there’s a large, unmarked bottle inside of one of the bags containing a clear liquid, looks like water, sort of reminds me of hydrochloric acid but almost no smell (at most just very slightly bitter but not nearly as strong as vinegar or alcohol or anything), bottle sort of looks like a rubbing alcohol bottle with no label, and I know that this person has possessed GHB in the past. Anyways, just wondering if anyone knows how I can either have it tested or if anyone knows which personal/at-home tests are the most reliable? If I brought a sample to a lab or hospital, would/could the police get involved? Would they even be willing to test it? I really just want to know what this is, don’t want anyone to get in trouble, and don’t want to be responsible for what could be a fairly large amount of GHB.

TLDR: most reliable at-home tests for GHB available online and/or asking a lab or hospital to test a sample and any potential legal ramifications

Lol nice, thanks! Some of the other test kits I was seeing didn’t seem very reliable. Saw a lot of stuff about false positives.
Any time! The NARK II ones are approved by the Department of Justice and are consequently used by law enforcement. Of course lab testing is going to be better, but those ones are pretty spot on.

That test basically answers your question, however, what makes you specifically think it's GHB?

GHB is odorless, so are it's analogs like GBL and 1,4 BDO. Although I guess the latter could have some sort of olfactory bitterant added? It should not smell acidic in any case.

Is it more viscous than water? Any other unique properties?

If it's such a worry about containing an illegal substance, why don't you just pour it down the drain? What's the purpose of spending money if you are not going to use it?

Look, I can tell you with a large degree of certainty, from experience, that druggies don't just leave drugs behind like that for someone they don't trust to be OK with it to find/hold. I can also tell you that if I was entering a shelter, I would have already sold that "large bottle" of GHB for $$$ beforehand. It doesn't make much sense, but crazier things are possible.

It just sounds very odd to me. If I was in their shoes, I would have used or sold all my drugs before giving away my possessions....

Well- this company will not sell the test kit to individuals- Only to law enforcement, hospitals, etc. AND, the cost of the box of five tests costs $33 and the shipping costs $40 (FedEx Ground)!! So, it's $73 for five GHB tests (does not test got GBL nor 1-4 Butane Diol... I intended to buy this, but not for $73! And, they probably would not have accepted my order anyway, because I am an indvidual, not one of their approved institutions... Any other companies sell a GHB test kit? Hmmmm....

Unfortunately, quality testing is rarely cheap. I used to work at a GC/MS lab and people would say "why would I pay $80 to test this $60 gram of ketamine" for example. And I totally get it, but you're kinda gambling with your life if you take a substance without truly knowing what it is.

Saw a lot of stuff about false positives.
Did you ever get a result?
