The Substance

It was very good, extremely horrific but super funny and paced in a trippy way that allowed for extreme peaks of horror without succumbing to indulgence and sacrificing structure, integrity or other important aspects of film making such as the eminent virtue of not taking oneself too seriously.

This year has had two top movies (Poor Things being the other one) for me. This tells me that probably my taste has become a little more forgiving after growing up a bit and maybe exploring older classic movies could be good too. Cause i doubt this year is really a historical peak for cinema, so i guess it must have to do with my own mindset.

For me, Dune: Part Two was the peak film. Alien: Romulus was satisfactory. I've been otherwise disappointed.

Hell, Dune disappointed. Part One was much better imo but it has also always been a difficult to adapt novel and of course is influenced by the changing times like anything else.

I think both Dune movies have been good, but not great. There's something flat and monotone about the delivery of the entire cast. It goes slightly beyond world building immersion into entitled boringness for me.

Alien: Romulus is on the to do list.

I like comedies too sometimes !

Dybbuk Box - The Story of Chris Chambers (2019)

Quite a well done found footage about buying and opening a Dybbuk Box. Decent for the short runtime.
