Is it okay to use Codeine while on Butrans patch 23mcg per hour per week? What about Tramadol? Percocet? I use a buprenorphine patch (Butrans) which is relatively low dose buprenorphine. I sometimes get breakthrough pain and wonder if a T3 would be okay. I currently use plain Tylenol but it doesn’t always work for more severe breakthrough pain.

I would be surprised if Codeine did anything for you.
Bupe rather effectively blocks straight mu agonist opiates so no that wont do shit for you unfortunately.
Really? It completely blocked the dilaudid my friend was on so well that she went into wd. If 30mg's of codeine helps then that wont hurt. Codeine has alot of adverse effects though for being a relatively weak opiate though as you point out.
I would recommend talking to your doctor though and tell him that you need breakthrough meds.
Most of the literature I read online recommends the avoidance of any opioids while on Butrans patch. I have had good relief with codeine except I went into a withdrawal like state a day after using codeine. My research and my experience shows me to avoid anything stronger than Tylenol or Ibuprofen. I love how Tramadol makes me feel at first but after a day of Tramadol use I get pretty sick for a couple of weeks. I actually know better but I thought I would ask others experiences.
There is no way 30mg is getting through, I refuse to believe. I can be on 500mcg bupe a day and shoot a full bag H and get no or if lucky half a rush. Are you sure it ain't a placebo effect.

Sorry just read that and those are wds sides which means maybe the Codeine is throwing the bupe of and you get relieve but side is throwing your into wds. Maybe the way the patch works and releases the bupe has something to do with what Codeine could have work but in my exp my body, never . But like mentioned, take this up with your doctor, very interesting but I...
Now this makes sense as taking bupe while on dilaudid made my friend as sick as a dog from wd's. Perhaps taking codeine is enough to fuck up the bupe somehow?
I would honestly recommend just telling your doctor that the bupe isnt totally effective against your pain.
My Doctor recommends to avoid codeine unless absolutely necessary. He’s okay with a little codeine in a pinch but to be careful. I find that Butrans is pretty good for my chronic pain for the most part. The only problem is that I am terrified to stop using Butrans. I read that the withdrawal is hell lasting for months. I just went through a 5 and 1/2 month marijuana withdrawal. I am one of the lucky ones who gets hard withdrawal from pot. For me pot withdrawal is like tobacco withdrawal.
Is there a bupe tablet made for breakthrough pain? That would be a better idea imo if it even exists mind you
I don't think so but what I can add in my exp that when I use other opioids/opiates to breakthrough bupe to get high depending what I used, I normally just wait 12hrs and take bupe again and I'm back where I started with no wds and on maintenance

But with that in mind if the op had an external or oral version then he could use that to stabilize quicker after the use of codeine but that is just a theory
A sublingual low dose tablet and buccal patch exists but not in Canada. In the US I believe Belbuca is available but not in Canada. All that said I would be reluctant to use oral bupe as it is terrible for dental health. I would stick with the transdermal patch. In any case other than Butrans at 5,10,15 and 20 mcg patches there’s a 2mg and 8 mg sublingual tablets available for opioid addiction. The Butrans is the only available buprenorphine for chronic pain. It is actually very effective even after years of continuous use but it’s supposed to be hard like hell to stop using.
Also I experience adverse effects of additional bupe above my 23 mcgs per week dose. I use a 10 mcg patch every 3 days and I wear it for 7 days. It averages to 23.33 mcgs per week. If I wear an additional 5 mcgs per week I get pretty sick. At least my designated dose is still effective for the most part for just over 8 years now.
Im from Canada to and according to the drug products database belbuca was cancelled post market. The only oral bupe available here is suboxone sadly
At least Butrans is available for chronic pain. Many doctors are willing to give Butrans but nothing more. Butrans is safer and very effective. Unfortunately it’s a life long decision for many people like myself. Still I look forward to applying my 10 mcg patch tomorrow. Sometimes I feel nice from the Butrans but sometimes I feel bad about it. For the most part I feel okay on it.
I get morphine for pain i dont know anyone here who has gotten bupe for pain. The only reason i get morphine is because ive been on it for ages for pain. Doctors here dont like putting new patients on opiates it seems
With the current opioid crisis Dr’s are leary to use opioids. Many Drs will give Butrans patch for chronic pain as it has a good safety profile unlike other typical opioids. Butrans typically is substituted for codeine or tramadol. Butrans is equivalent to high dose codeine or Tramadol but safer.
