Hello everybody.
I want to share my experience so :
Here, in EU ( Slovak Republic), but also other parts of eu completely stopped using codeine (30mg+acetaminophen), pure codeine tablets etc. Now u will be prescribed tramadol ( 10 years ago codeine ) but in present codeine dissapeared. Why ?
I know WHO put tram into better position and into that self-inducing machines in hospitals so u Can dose it every few minutes as morphine but i am interested about situation in other parts of world. Do they still use codeine in your country ? Or both or only tramadol ? Because for many patient codeine is safer...tramadol may be longer acting and also snri but many people vomit from tramadol or in higher doses seize ...i even saw one man getting cardiovascular colaps from tramadol..

In Canada codine can be bought over the counter. Each pill only has 8mg and they added caffeine.
Codine don't work for me, I get a rash and extremely itchy.
I haven't heard of people getting tramadol at all. I'm sure it's here but since safe supply you can get hydromorph for cheap

We have 8mg cod/30mg caffeine/500mg paracetamol otc too, but in past they were treating people with codeine pills now it's 37,5mg tramadol/325 mg paracetamol or 50mg IR caps, 100mg/1ml oral drops or 100 - 250mg ER pills. All tramadol only prescribed. My pain doc changed my tram/apap script for dihydrocodeine, on my demand. She wasn't happy because i am not 80 with cancer but for 2 years i have 60x60mg ER script every month. Tramadol which is my worst addiction and oxy is from other sources...and in pharmacy they told me that dihydrocodeine is something they don't casualy have because besides me only 1 person (who visit that pharmacy) take it. I managed to get it instead of tramadol cause i said because of antidepressives my liver can't metabolize tram....

Yes, they use codeine in Spain, I get 30/500 codeine/ paracetamol por moderate pain; it's also used for cough supresion.
But I think that you are right: they are using synthetics more and more over naturals. They push tramadol over codeine for moderate pain and dxm and other stuff for cough supression; also fentanyl over morphine for severe pain

I hate tramadol, tapentadol and fentanyl and would take an inferior dose of codeine or morphine over them any day of the fucking week

I was on a script in the uk for 30/500 prior to being moved onto extended release DHC, this was 2021 ish though.
You can get it still here on script as an old mate who has been blagging his gp since the late 90's get's both 15/500 co codamol and 50mg Tramadol, to be fair he did fall down some stairs and break several bones in both legs.

In the early 90's we had a gp in our area that was dishing out Temazepam eggs at an alarming rate, this lad would book an appointment for say 11am and drink a couple of special brew on the way there and most often would come out with a script. This gp was struck off iirc.

Weird over here its their but [hardly] prescribed the opposit of Tramadol. Which is 1-st choice?

Used to work at MediFarm a distribution centre for meds prescription and OTC. There were stockpiles of it Codeine
(could be they missed a box which somehow fellin my panty hose) and Tram.
Btw also Ritalin all benzo's on the shelves, but not Flunitrazepam maybe some more?

For some reason these were locked in the vault, along with Morphine, Dextro-Amphetamine, DextroMoramide/ Fentanyl.
And who kows what else? Not s-Ketamine (or r-?) vials, what was weird.

Codeine last time it was OTC, under the counter, 2 packs a year max. The transition phaze probably.
Excepting the useless sirup, contained so little it was more akin to a laxitive.

My wife while pregnant was the first time i saw a prescription for 30 mg Codeine with 500 mg Paracetamol added.
Later on supposedly, other dr., told Codeine hurts the baby and switched her to .....
Tramadol, during pregnancy and still on it. 17 years later and she still going.

Might be Codein is indeed bad when pregnant,
but why wouldn t a chemical effecting so many neurotransmitters not pass to the baby?
Does Codeine pass through to the baby and Tramadol not i wonder. Kinda far strechted, but could be right.
But Tramadol had influence on my wifes behaviour, while Codeine did not!

Doctors here consider 37,5mg being strong enough maybe even too much lol but they never prescribe 30/500 codeine and this is lasting fór years...tramadol must be huge business.
Somebody mentioned it has influence on his wifes behaviour - this is because it is instant action snri (quite potent compared to 1 same dose of venlafaxine) and many other things on top of being prodrug to full agonist opioid which in high doses trests my pain better than oxy...Huge dose oxy...and i take it for 11 years..it must have some additional addiction potential or what... And a little warning : never go over 400 without any benzodiazepines (or in my case levetiracetam - complete seizures protection without sedation ). Now i am tapering tram 150mg every 4 hours, ofc pain is back with lower dose but i found that gabapentin helped with that, plus weed and nsaids and Max 5mg alprazolam per day ( i Can take 30). This is day two and it's not that bad..probably that gabapentin do something (i am not experienced with it, only with pregabalin)

far southeast corner of Europe...codeine tabs-10 and 20mg were available long time ago....when we were still on Soviet pharmacopeia...then was also codeinum purum-or codeine base powder...a good stuff....all that is gone long time ago.now codein is available only with conjunction with another meds-NSAID or sort in a dosage max.20mg per tablet....no codeine alone...

Hey that is my personal max, otherwise naussea, and more unwanted. o-DSMT 100 mg does not share this but instead does keep me up. But felt as real Opiod, like Codeine. But not sedating, but nodding.

Guessing what was most bothersome with the neurotransmitters it effects.
Its antagonist at GABA-a, add Nor-Epinephrine re-uptake inhibitor. You got a stressed/ flight fight/ i dont care/ dissociated/ painfree Vagine,

While you also experience Serotonin, NMDA-antagonism and evemtually Mu-Opiod activation. But these effects, never saw that influencing her character, the bad effects. Balancing or somesort isn t part. Its documentated the behavioural response certain people exhibit on it.

Here in our pharmacopeia we still have one ( the last) preparation with codeine as the only active ingredient.
It has the very weird amount of 28,7 mg per pill, and it's the old hemihidrate formulation, so those 28,7 mg equals like 21 or so mg of codeine purum, iirc.
Less and less used nowadays. It won't surprise ne if they discontinue it in the next years; in fact, I would be surprised if they don't.

I tried to get OTC codeine in Toronto and they told me I needed a prescription! Its not that I dont believe you, I'm just wondering why they did that.

Its still available OTC in Ireland ie Neurophen Plus and Solpodine Extra.

Web have codeine phosphate 8mg otc. Like, seriously ? 8mg codeine phosphate with 500mg acetaminophen and 30mg caffeine. Prescription 30mg ones are still available, but nobody prescribes it. Tramadol 37,5/325mg paracetamol and don't even try to ask for refill.

Here in the UK codeine 8/500 is otc. Back a few years ago codeine linctus with 600mg a bottle was otc but only one pharmacy in my town stocked it, eventually they banned me from buying. I was doing the old pharmacy runs then for cwe, the linctus was heaven, I’d just down the whole bottle, 8/500 meant a lot of tablets to crush and extract.

I also completed a nursing degree a year ago (and then realised I don’t want to be a nurse). In my experience on placements/ working as a health care assistant for a bit, codeine seems the most common prescribed pain relief here. Didn’t actually give patients tramadol that often.
