In your opinion, how much flower does an oz of concentrate equal?

Hey new forum look!

I know it is impossible without THC content or strain or more details, but in general.

Now that I've had the opportunity to have Oz's of flower, and Oz's of concentrate, I am able to compare. An Oz of flower will last me 2-3 months tops, usually trying to stretch it. The past few years I've been smoking strictly concentrate for value, convenience, etc, and an Oz of shatter will easily last me 6 months. The last one somehow almost lasted me a year.

I feel like an Oz of concentrate is close to like a quarter pound of flower. And I've never made concentrate or pressed rosin or anything, so I don't know how much flower actually goes into making an oz of concentrate, but I imagine quite a bit.

well weight for weight, concentrates will kick way harder because they contain a lot more of the active cannabinoids than herb, because herb contains lots of plant material. Also lots of concentrates will sit at around the 40% mark where as most herb is only up to or around 20-25% thc on average

Oh for sure, but what do you think the weight for weight is? For instance, if 1 gram of shatter lasts you a week, and typically an 1/8th of kush lasts you a week, then in theory an Oz of shatter would be equivalent to ~98 grams or like 3.5 oz's.

why not compare 1 gram of weed with 1 gram of shatter

lets say its 20% THC for arguments sake, 1000mg so thats 200mg thc in the g
Then you only get between 30-60% depending on inhalation method (Smoking to Vaporising on high end vape)

Where as something like shatter on average contains up to 60% THC and if you also chuck in the weight for weight comparison like i said before about plant matter , well a whole gram of shatter is going to deliver you around 600mg THC (before actual ingestion figure)

say 1g/1000mg of weed at 24% (b/c I like even numbers), therefore 0.24 (expression of THC% as a fractional #) x 1000 mg/g = 240 mg THC
1g/1000mg of shatter at 76.2% THC = 762mg THC. in this case the g of shatter is 762/240 =3.175 or a bit over 3 times as much. It’s easy to start equivalentizing product to product.

And yup, I know that we are talking about different forms of and that there is not 100% chemical similarity, but that’s the starting point @eBagger, allowing one to compare weed/shatter/wax/hash/vape cartridges. If I get a really potent live resin/hash rosin cartridge that I just can’t seem to figure out how potent - I’ll just use it as a top up.

Raw or unflavoured distillate cartridges I’ll just use as a straight weed replacement (and then terpene flavoured distillate carts usually being a bit more potent than just raw distillate) and then added minor Cannabinoids.

So, in so many words, in a very rounded off way, I kind of feel like you're saying concentrates can be like.....5 times the potency/ability to get high than flower? ( Because 1/3rd of the potency, and you're getting anywhere from 1/3 - 2/3rds of it absorbed depending on inhalation) which in mind equals to 5 somehow. Which honestly sounds about right.

The main reason I'm questioning these things is like I mentioned, if you are only considering cost effectiveness and ability to get high, one would almost never choose to smoke flower unless it's like 1/4 or 1/5 of the cost.

If I pay $100 for an Oz of flower thats fun, roll in blunts, hit with bong, tastes great, etc, but it only lasts me a month, I don't see a future where I don't pay $100 for an Oz of shatter that literally lasts me 6 months of smoking whenever I want, usually daily. And between the benefits of feeling cleaner, not all that smoke and foliage, ease of smoking and portability. Because yeah that's literally a 5x or 6x multiplier for the same cost, which is mind-blowing to me.

I think I've made threads on here before like "Who would smoke flower again when concentrates are available" and I understand all the arguments, but as a smoker who grew up in the south and didn't really have access to concentrates until about 10 years ago, when I first tried wax I thought holy fuck, this is the SHIT. Literally the only problem was every now and then you'd get TOO high too easily, but after smoking concentrates for an extended period you can easily find your sweet spot.

@eBagger

That’s a good ratio for comparison; at the government weedstore where I buy my legal Cannabis, flowers goes from ~10% up to 35% snd concentrates go from 50ish% (bubble hash) to 95% (THCA diamonds). Regular flower is ~20%,hash ~30%, shatter ~ 70% but there’s tons of stuff all over the place.
