Mandrax ; Could anybody compare it to high dose benzo / w/e else

Hey I am from a part of the world I realize I will never get to try methaqualone / mandrax.

I understand it is fairly available in S/A; Has anybody tried it and is it comparable to any other substance (other than other barbs I suppose). High benzo dose maybe? Soma?

I've had etaqualone.

Closest thing I can compare it to is a heavy dose of temazepam plus some extra wonkiness. Fairly clear headed.

Dangerous as fuck though. I was smoking some after eating a bunch (also had benzos in my system but was tolerant), then I went to go take another hit. Next memory i have, its days later and I wake up in an ICU gagging on a breathing tube. Shit very nearly killed me. They put me in a medically induced coma and told my family to be prepared for brain damage due to the prolonged hypoxia etc. I was fine however. For the most part. Felt very weird for a number of months, as if some part of me had died, hard to explain.

The high however was actually fairly mediocre relative to death it almost caused. Frankly didn't feel like strong, again like heavy duty temazepam. But mentally I felt quite clear. Until I lost consciousness and stopped breathing.

Apparently Soma hits the barb receptor as well as Gaba A, the part that hits the barb receptor has to be converted by the liver into Meprobamate / Miltown

So that is probably the closest thing that's easily avilable, that your going to get your hands on.

I also tried Etaqualone (the RC version of Methaqualone) when it was available as an RC. The warnings on the website about the substance being 'very unforgiving' were scary, although I eventually discovered that sublingual dosing was the safest route as it required much lower doses to achieve a high.

Rather than the oral route where the amount needed to get high was almost the same as the lethal dose. With very little margin inbetween.

I wasted most of my 1g sample working up with small oral doses with no effect, until I discovered the sublingual thing to use up the last of my 1g. That actually hit very nicely. But by then the substance was no longer available to get any more. I don't think it's likely to ever be seen again.

^^^There is no such thing as a barbiturate receptor. Its just another binding site on the GABA-A complex. Neither meprobamate nor carisoprodol dock at the barbiturate binding site, insteading acting in a more mysterious fashion, also acting in other manners (like on adenosine).

Carisoprodol doesn't feel much like a barbiturate, having some experience with pentobarbital and too much experience with phenobarbital and carisoprodol. What carisoprodol does have in common with the barb class is its unpredictable nature. In a way, alcohol feels more like a barb than carisoprodol. But still very different. I would say the closest drug available that kind of feels like a barb would be heavy doses of temazepam, which can give you glimpse of the body high that barbs have. Maybe temazepam plus some carisoprodol and a glass of red wine (don't attempt).

Yeah with etaqualone the doses required were high. I probably had 600-700mg that night. Maybe a little more

Yet on a different (prior) night i tried 400mg orally, with maybe 100mg smoked, which was fairly strong, not overwhelming. Felt like a heavy dose of temazepam, but less fuzzy headed with less amnesia.

All mixed with alprazolam, phenazepam and estazolam. I probably wouldn't have OD'd had it not been for the benzos.

But just goes to show narrow therapeutic window.

For me it was significantly "messier" than any benzo I've ever tried, by which I mean, loss of balance, muscle weakness, general clumsiness. Cognitively, kinda nice and relaxing but also kinda unremarkable, not any better than a mid to heavier dose of diazepam, for example, but actually I also thought it was also far less likely to induce the kind of paradoxically manic sobriety delusion that most benzos can, to a greater or lesser extent. Perhaps this was exactly because of the obvious physical clumsiness, or perhaps barbiturates aren't quite as likely to induce sobriety delusions in general, I haven't tried any others so wouldn't really know. The physical clumsiness I'd say was more pronounced to the point of being out of step with the cognitive effects, since if I was just sitting down I could forget that I was so impaired, and then I'd stand up and just immediately fall over, for example... stupid shit like that. I guess this is kinda opposite to benzos where the cognitive spangledness often is out of step with physical impairment, hence sobriety delusions and weird behaviour. For comparison, I think I'd put alcohol between the 2 of them as the kinda yardstick GABAergic substance where the cognitive impairment and physical impairment are fairly well entwined.

Only times i liked using it was for the days i went on heavy Crack binges, so something to just knock you out hard and make you sleep 1 and a half days, it came handy in that way. Glad those days are behind me now.

Sounds excactly like Etaqualone. But more potent and maybe a longer duration. Oral dosages of Eta are huge it was marketed in france 350 mg tablets 500 mg not an unusual dose, probably half as strong.

But vaped a little floored me for a minute or 5 with an incredible rush and a sort of after glow.

Thank you coffeshroom and negrogesic. Sorry to hear about your experience man; a temazepam buzz and all that horror. Boo. Yea I think I may be a benzo guy not a barb guy. Of course as perpetuatued my mythos barbs are "like super benzos" was the school of thought in the US....they should make some barbs available so that mythos goes away..

Do either of you have any idea how many mg? Or are we just smokin it and hopin to live? lol...no judgement intended there btw.

haha crack binges, well yea anything that will put you to sleep forsure. I can't go UP without landing gear personally.
