Based on the beliefs I hold and the rhetoric I have espoused in this thread, neither side's actions are acceptable.
Based on what I have seen some people in here say, it is therefore okay for Hamas to "defend" itself from over 85 years of attacks by killing Israelis.

"Massacre" infers intent. While all 32 Palestinian terrorist groups west of the Jordan River DELIBERATELY target Jewish civilains, not 1 Israeli Security formation reciprocates. Indeed Israel hands down does everything it can to minimise harm against Palestininian non combatants.
Not 1 military in the history of our planet has ever Roof Knocked, ever hijacked local media & cell coverage, directly phoned targetted edifices even when of Mixed Use. Not one has used public address systems ahead of every modern offencive warning non combatants to flee said edifices. Of course this allows combatant to flee AS WELL, or, should they opt to, deploy ambuscades & booby traps where by Israeli military personnel are harmed, & even killed.
Compare any of above to anything HAMAS has EVER done.
As for your list? Virtually none ever occured & the 3 that did were not committed by Israel. They were by pre-State paramilitaries that were dismanteled by Israel. In fact, those 3 did not occur in a vaccuum. Perpetrators made the pi** poor choice to treat Arabs as the latter had treated Jews.
Take the 1937 example, that was nearly 18 years AFTER Palestinians launched their orchestrated campaign of Genocide against Jews. I have posted in at least 2 previous posts about how that campaign began on March 3rd, 1920. After almost 2 decades of Arab on Jewish slaughter it is a no brainer that some Jews felt that their only hope in stemming that Genocide was to respond in kind, i.e. to exact a high enough price so that Arabs might finally try & co-exist.
A year before, the "Arab Rebellion of 1936" was launched. I can give you a list of more than 120 Jewish population centres that by 1937 had already been Ethnically Cleansed by Arabs. At least 54 had transpired in the past 10 months.
Lastly, NO MATTER WHAT Jews did almost a century ago, HAMAS et al attacked on October 7th, 2023. You cannot justify it by any decades old this or that.
To repeat, nothing Israel is doing in Gaza even loosely resembles Genocide or a massacre. Even if the Gazan figures had not been proven to be patently false, and they have, in per capita terms- EVEN IF 100% were civilains- it is not a massacre.
All armed conflicts are governed by LOAC & IHL- Laws of Armed Conflict & International Humamitarian Law- the 2 genres within International Law devised exactly for this purpose. If you are big on lists, let us make 2 very simple ones for how Israel has contravened them, and how HAMAS et al have. To that end, Israel has until now not even come close to violating even 1 law. HAMAS on the other hand has broken 17 laws.
"Prisoner exchange". The nerve of these dickheads. You forcibly kidnapped innocent civilians, hostages, which is a war crime. They are not prisoners. Inmates commit crimes in the host country and are tried by jury, not taken at gunpoint for the act of no-crime to a foreign land and treated like shit.
