I have done a lot of research on the subject recently because a friend of mine suffers from it.

Despite it being an outdated term, yes people, or just women if you're talking about nymphomania, can be hypersexual to the extent it would be considered a medical condition.
I'm not certain about how it manifests, but my money would be on conditioning, either by abuse or neglect. However hypersexuality could be also caused by biology too, and I believe there are also cases if it occurring due to head injury too.
No real examples in real life I can think of, but certainly women with very high sex drives, who sadly get called bikes or sluts, when they likely need therapy/medication if it's causing misery and/or dangerous behaviour.
 
I'm not sure of the proper definition for nymphomania, but I had one ex-girlfriend that I would definitely consider hypersexual. We would have done it 3 or 4 times already on a work night (long sessions, not quickies), I would only have a couple hours to try and get some sleep, and she would get mad at me for not wanting to do it again.

Was she manic/bipolar? I had an ex and he was like your ex. I mean, I like and enjoy sex, but I need sleep as well.
 
I have a bachelor's degree in psychology, obtained over 30 years ago, so maybe out of date, but I specifically recall that when we were taught about nymphomania, we were taught that it is misunderstood by mainstream society because it is NOT women who love sex too much. That's fascinating. Her Zoloft made it almost impossible to reach orgasm, so there could be some truth to that.

I had a girlfriend like that. Whether we were having sex, I went down on her, used vibrator, she'd be, "that's going to make me cum!" but then it never did.
