I don’t know if I can smoke weed anymore

I am 28 and have basically stopped altogether starting at age 26. I started smoking at 14 and was a daily smoker until 25. I've always loved weed. Enjoyed the effects that it had as well as the medical benefits that it provided me. Then one day it just switched. Smoking was a guaranteed panic attack, or if I was lucky an anxiety attack. I've still been able to smoke high CBD buds but anything over 3%THC I am very careful with.

Recently I've been finding myself miss it a lot, so I've started a new technique. I'll take one hit of high THC bud a night. I'm doing it in hopes that I can get my tolerance up again and learn to like the effects again. Weed has always been more enjoyable for me when I have a tolerance. My tolerance is so low that these past few nights, just one small hit of 15% THC flower has gotten me super stoned, but its been manageable and I've been able to find some enjoyment out of the effects. I also find that it helps if I'm smoking with my partner or a close friend. Smoking with my partner, if things get intense I can just cuddle them and hold on for dear life and it keeps me in a peaceful headspace despite the intensity. If I'm with a close friend, then the stoney conversation seems to distract me enough from overthrowing and triggering a panic attack.

I do still keep 10%CBD+ weed around so If I overshoot and get too stoned, then I can smoke some of that and level myself out

I really hope this technique works. If it doesn't, then I'm likely giving up cannabis for the remainder of my life, and that thought saddens me.

But as others have said, weed just seems to turn on people as they get older. It sucks but at least you got a few decades out of it
Thank you for your response. I like how you said at least you got a few decades out of it. It’s funny how someone can sometimes say something in a perspective that makes you think “huh yea I never thought of it that way”.

It’s funny you mentioning CBD, years ago I was in this little hippy town & went to this psychic for fun. & she actually said to me … in the future CBD is going to help you but Not THC. She brought it up outta no where I didn’t even mention it, & I just remembered that reading what you wrote.

Have you given CBD buds a shot? CBG is also nice. A dispensary I used to to often sold 99.9% Pure crystaline CBD that you could vape or dab, as well as a 70% CBG hemp extract that you could dab. The CBG stuff was amazing. Great for relaxing, muscle pain, gastrointestinal issues. They also had 15% CBG 0.4% THC buds that were amazing.

I'm currently smoking these joints that are 14% CBD and 0.6% THC. They have enough THC with my low tolerance to provide me a little bit of a mental high and to have a but of the entourage effect, amd the CBD is high enough to keep me from freaking out or developing anxiety. It's also great for relaxing and getting sleepy.

If you haven't yet tried cutting back on THC significantly and adding higher doses of CBD, then I'd say that it's well worth a shot. It's basically all I smoke now.

I just now took my one hit of 16% THC bud and I started to find the intensity unenjoyable, so I took 3 hits of the high CBD joint and it took the intensity right down.

Oh wow interesting, I have to look into that. I definitely have muscle pain issues & anything that can help is always a blessing
Thank you 💜

@AngelsandFairiesarereal

I've been getting stoned for over 20 years.

Over that time, I have had my fair share of anxiety. Usually it's when I overdose. This is hard to avoid when smoking, particularly if you don't always get the same quality bud and/or maintain a constant tolerance (by consuming every day).

Switching to vaping massively reduced anxiety for me, because I find it much easier to control dose. The same goes again (tenfold) switching to tincture and edibles.

I know how many ml of tincture or how many gummies I need to consume to get where I want to be.

Not sure if any of that is helpful?

Yes it’s helpful, I appreciate your kindness 💜

It’s been about a week since I quit smoking, I forgot how crazy I got when I quit. It’s really weird, I haven’t slept in more than 24 hrs (at least) can’t eat which isn’t good because I’m a little shrimp anyway that could prob gain to put on a couple. The last time I went this long without mj was back in my twenties when I went to rehab for roxi, alcohol & xans (i never looked at weed like nothing just couldn’t use in rehab obviously)

I’m trying to see how long I can go but wow … mood swings & feeling like I’m almost on some sort of stimulant

i don't know if you drink coffee, but if you do, be careful - this happens to me, whether it's been from quitting cigs or weed (i haven't smoked cigs in over 10 years - but i quit a bunch of times) for me, about a month after stopping weed, i think this comes into effect:

Cigarette smoking induces the cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) enzyme, which is the primary enzyme involved in caffeine metabolism, and experimentally smoking decreases levels of plasma caffeine.

so basically, when you smoke, you can drink more coffee - but when you quit, your tolerance for caffeine goes down - so don't be surprised if somewhere along the line, you have a panic attack if you stay on the same amount of caffeine intake as you were when you were smoking - and that definitley happens to me with weed too - and it usually happens around 5 weeks after the last time i smoked - and it happens every time to me - i've yet to see a study that says smoking weed does the same as smoking cigs, but im nearly positive it does just from experience

it sounds like you're not even gonna make it that far without smoking weed, but if you do, just be aware that can happen - usually when i take a break from weed, it's for at least a few months, sometimes a year or so too

whatever you do, good luck

Thank you for your response Mr. Krinkle 💜
Wow that’s really interesting. I quit like a little over two weeks
ago and the other day I felt a little panicky after my second cup of coffee.
I quit smoking cigarettes about ten years ago too but kinda just replaced it with weed.
Wow you quit weed a few months to a year, you have a strong will. I’m trying to see how long I can go but these mood swings whew lol.
(((hugs))))

Although quitting weed can result in prolonged symptoms (and, it might not), after a week or two, you get steadily reducing issues.
It gets easier, and other good things replace it.
Hang in there.

(Quitting pot is all over the place as to how much it affects you. Different people are different as to levels of discomfort and some have none at all. It's even different as to different stages of your life and different relationships you have with the drug.
I can attest to that.
Quitting was always pretty easy for me with most all issues gone in less than a week until I used it medically for pain relief. Then, suddenly, I got more extended "withdrawal".
And that's not all because of having to find new ways to deal with pain. My relationship with the drug had changed, if that makes sense.)

lol yea you'll get through the mood swings - they usually only last 2 weeks for me

the shitty sleep and the vivid dreams are what drives me nuts when i quit - the shitty sleep usually only lasts about a week but the dreams keep going - but after about a month, they're not as vivid and i start to forget them, although im still dreaming my head off every night - i barely dream when im smoking weed, and i like that - dreams are usually just annoying for me - they can be funny but they're usually just stupid and i'd rather just be sleeping

i like when i quit because i tend to become more productive - and it's good because it's not like i replace it with anything either - at one point, i drank more beer, but i didn't like how that turned out either so i dialed that back down and never ended up going that route again - and that was probably about 8 or 9 years ago

the reason why i stay off the weed for so long when i do stop, is because when i usually start smoking again, no matter what, it turns into me smoking 6 times a day again, and that's not really what i wanna do - and then i feel like i need to smoke, and i don't like that - i don't like to feel like i need to do anything - and it's a pain in the ass to quit again when it becomes habitual, just like you're seeing what it's like now - but once you get fully through it, which should be about a month, with 2 weeks into it being the peak, you should be pretty content - so stick it out because you're there right now and wait to see where you're at 4 or 5 weeks from when you last smoked - you should be pretty happy at that point....and btw im 50 and ive been smoking on and off, mostly on, since i was 13 - and i grow so im always around it

have you lost weight since you stopped? i usually drop 5 lbs immediately - and i immediately put the 5 lbs back on once i start again - that always amazes me

and another tip: you can always try a hard reset with a nice dose of LSD somewhere in the middle there too if that's possible :tunein: :badumtiss:

You're replacing it with being productive. :) I do that too.

Great advice.

Thank you so much @Mr. Krinkle and @brokedownpalace10
What you wrote is really helpful
I guess I’m not so alone going through this at 39. I’ve lost some weight so I’ve been making shakes so I don’t get too small lol
Thank you for sharing your experiences & wisdom on the matter

I like you guys, you’re very cool 💜💜

This is a very common thing.
Being in the same spot myself, I did some research.

There are scientifical proofs, that smoking weed on regular basis results in lower, compared to control group,
GABA neurotransmission in the hippocampus, that is present even after prolonged (6 months) abstinence.

For those who don't understand what this means - you might recognize benzodiazepines, a class of drugs; anxiolytics with primary mechanism depending on boosting GABA neurotransmission. Makes some sense now, right?

EDIT: damn, I am late to the party.
Somebody already mentioned these findings.
And yes, smoking cannabis also upregulates 5HT2A receptors responsive for receptor-mediated
excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs), but this is mainly an acute effect.

What the great Egzo doesn't understand is why years after the 2014 FCTC/COP6 we still ain't getting consumption tools & associated rituals serving social acceptability while also getting rid of contaminated statistics where cannabis always gets the blame anyway... And/or the individual but never external vilification vectors to the height observed even in « légaleezed » (sacrificed) province$. How come? Ain't the law supposed to "save" us all In The Name Of Children??

Still haven’t been smoking, well had some slips here & there but haven’t since ever the slip on March 10th? I think

I really kinda want to tonight for the relieving properties but don’t want to if it would give anxiety & cause I’ve really been on a streak of not.
Just caused a lot of relief for the decades I have used

Such a conundrum

I don’t know if I’m only thinking of the many years it’s brought relief & forgetting that the reason I stopped because it was starting to give me anxiety
