Misc Black Seed Oil is AMAZING

I took some of the gel cap black seed oil and I don’t think it made me feel any different.

I’d try at least a couple reliable brands cuz it sounds like this stuff varies.

Soon as I can afford it in a month or two I’ll order this and give it a try. Anything to lower me tolerance.

the risk of serotonin syndrome kinda turned me off

my bottle of oil has been collecting dust

I noticed less kratom cravings while taking it, but not much in the way of mood enhancement (maybe they were one in the same?)
Do you have any paper talking about it's sero release/reuptake qualities?
I know it affects serotonin and I can feel it somewhat but honestly just talking anecdotally and by subjective terms I wouldn't consider that it changes sero to a risky amount. YMMV

Black seed oil inhibits monoamine oxidase metabolism of serotonin in the presynaptic neuron. High concentrations of serotonin in the synaptic cleft can trigger serotonin syndrome.

I don't know how big the risk is, I'm just very cautious about my serotonin levels after going through a prolonged SS episode a few months ago. I'm admittedly probably over cautious.

after reading this thread, i ordered it. was here this morning. it’s like drinking 1/4 a cup of cooking oil.

edit:
threw rest of bottle away.
This is why you mix it with honey. Or just order extract powder offline. I did this and it's coming tomorrow, can't wait.
And yeah the risk is very low. If you take it every single day for months I'm sure it's possible but I don't think that'd be necessary, there does exist some tolerance to the mood lifting effects I think.

Extract powder is really nice. Easy on the G.I and doesn't cause motor oil burps.
However it is VERY bitter, it makes kratom seem tame by comparison. You only need to use a tiny amount of it though, so if you mix it with some koolaid or something, it's fine. I did that yesterday, but opted for water today and holy shit it was awful. But, I feel good, mentally and physically. This works really well for post-op headaches I'm still getting after my sinus surgery last month. There was a dramatic difference in the past day. The dose is 200mg (20mg thymoquinone) per serving but I just take 500mg. I don't have a mg scale though so I could either be getting 495 or 505, can't be too precise, but it doesn't seem to matter too much.

been taking it over a decade. important to note: it doesnt reduce tolerance. it potentiates opioids. a subtle but important distinction. The best thing i have found for actually dealing w tolerance is ultra low dose naltrexone (20-40mcg range)

I think they found it reduced tolerance to morphine in rats. The difference between reduction and potentiation would be a thin line for sure though. I'm pretty sure it's lowered my tolerance, but I'd never be able to cognitively tell the difference. One thing I do notice is that it makes kratom last 3x as long. What used to be ~2 hours of effects is now 6-7, like when I first started taking it.

So how’s the powder treating you? Pharmacologically do you feel it’s superior to oils you’ve tried or no?

I would say it generally feels the same, it's just so much better on my G.I, no motor oil burps. I can't exactly say the oil upset my stomach, but it does actually harm microbiome in a similar way as antibiotics (supposedly). You can substitute olive oil for this and maybe that would lessen the impact?

I'm taking like 5x as much thymoquinone as I was before at this point, I should give it a few days without any and see if I get that pseudo-MDMA like effect from the first day from simply 10mg thymoquinone. I suppose I'd taken oil at 4am that day so there was probably still some of it active, the enzymes take like 2-4 hours to kick in and then are active for 8-12 hours (this is why it's good to take at bedtime if you want a stronger kratom dose for instance). It's been making all my kratom doses last 5+ hours, which is pretty sweet.

Supposedly there is an oil with 82mg thymoquinone per serving, I might look into it. But at present, the powder continues to keep my mood more elevated, I feel relief from G.I issues like constipation/bloating which have plagued me all year. I've actually been able to eat at work without bloating which has happened all year long. This is the only thing I've added into my regimen and it must be related, since my general anxiety is lower.

I will say though, the powder is fucking BITTER! It burns. Think everclear but in dirt form with old mountain dew spilled on it. Perhaps it's because I'm taking larger amounts, it's supposed to be 200mg/20mg TQ per serving but I've been taking 50, I think I took 60 today and it burned really bad. But apparently it's not always bitter this way. I mixed it with blue koolaid on the first day and didn't notice any burning, so I must have added too much today or something. I know mixing it with water like kratom is an absolute no.

I actually microwaved the koolaid for 30 sec with the powder in it to dissolve it quicker. Then I put my face up to it and my nostrils and eyes burned. Something milky would probably be a better mix honestly. But I do wonder why the first day it didn't seem rough or bitter at all. I would say the oil doesn't taste as bad, honestly. But it's very notorious for causing some G.I upset.

Overall I'd recommend the powder since it's cheaper, but harder to precisely dose. I just use a gram scale and convert with google, but that's never going to be 100% accurate.

tl;dr: it's treating me well. I really love this stuff. But don't you EVER try to toss and wash it lol

I take prozac, so is there a really serious risk of serotonin syndrome?

Is this an MAOI or serotonin enhancer?

I take prozac as well. It's MAOI concentration is extremely low, so I don't think there is any risk unless you were taking megadoses of it every day. However I'm only on 10mg prozac because I plan to quit it soon, though I do take amiltryptamine.

Thanks. Well, 10mgs is much lower than 60mgs like I take, and I'm not planning on getting off it soon, in fact, my doc just raised my dose, so I NEED TO BE SURE it's safe to mix with black seed oil if I'm gonna try.

I mean, there's always risks, but i would need to know they were low enough to feel comfortable. I see read Snafu's account of someone getting serotonin syndrome and read that some advise not to take it with serotonergic drugs and found that concerning as I want to try this.

Then again, they say not to mix all kinds of things with SSRIs that I do (like alcohol for instance) and lots of things CAN happen that are extremely rare. Some people have gotten liver problems from kratom just cause it doesn't agree with them but that's not typical.

But serotonin syndrome isn't something to mess around with...

I don't know how I'd "dip my toe in" to find out if this stuff is safe, but I'm interested for multiple reasons.

I was on 40mg of Cymbalta awhile back when I first started taking it in seeded capsules. My GP said it would be safe and probably help alongside it. In all honesty I've combined lots of stuff that could've caused it but never developed it.

So I see that Cymbalta is an SSNRI, whereas Prozac is an SSRI.

Anyone know if the risks of serotonin syndrome are greater, lesser or close to equal between mixing serotonin agents with SSRIs vs SNRIs?

The fact that your doctor said it would probably be ok, and you are on a serotonin drug, then that does make me feel more comfortable in trying it, because that's a doctor's opinion at least, which is something we don't otherwise have. I mean who knows about the one situation where it happened. Could have been something else, or who even knows what else the person was on.

It's an SNRI, a bit stronger than SSRIs and absolute hell coming off or even bridging into an SSRI. They have half lives like 6-12 hours whereas Prozac is like, 72 hours. I missed one dose and my whole body would feel like it was getting electrocuted and brain zaps like crazy. I withdrew from kratom several times and it's stupidly mild withdrawal by comparison.

So you think SNRI mixing with BSO is a greater risk than with an SSRI?

I don't know how half life affects dangers on this, cause you might think shorter half life = out of your system faster = less likely to cause issues, but also more addictive for sure.

They also say that BSO is addictive. Have you found it to be?

I guess just take less if it is.

And if I took it just once or twice WITHOUT mixing it with kratom or anything do you think I'd feel the effects?

Well, I should probably get to sleep soon but for some reason I'm now really really interested in this stuff, even just by itself, as well as mixed with Kratom. I'm going to do a bunch of research on it and consider buying some.

I hope it's cool if I sporadically message you in the meantime.

Thanks.

Yes she does. As usual I feel really great and relaxed. I was horribly stressed all day long. It reminds me of the feeling of a good strain of cannabis but without feeling the high. That's the best I can describe it.
