Pretty sure my dog is aware that I've been using meth.

I've known a LOT of animals and I've never seen anything like this before or since.

Aren't Marijuana and catnip closely related? I think I read that somewhere and that could explain some things. I've noticed basically every cat I've ever had absolutely loved to be in our smoke circles and would chase exhaled smoke like they were trying to get a good high going on too.

Also, now that I'm sober I just noticed your username and what a coincidence it is. My dog is named Jasper!
 
My word, Cats know when you're on Acid for sure.
Sylvester has looked at me a few times saying "here we go again" or "stay the fuck away from me, this is my astral plane".

On the whole though - I suspect its the lack of attention afforded while 'gear' is in use they detest.

Is it just me, is it the meth, or do our animals really know when we're in an altered state of mind? Maybe not even just specific to meth. Have you ever used something and noticed your pets react strangely towards you?

Man! Don't you know that dogs know shit! Seriously, pets can grow to be very intuitive spending massive time with an owner.

I doubt your dog knows what you're doing exactly, but I'd be surprised if they didn't know you were doing something. The way we present ourselves when methed up is often pretty different from our sober presentation, in myriad minor ways. Dogs alter their behaviour based on their behaviour of their pack/family, it makes sense sense that sensing that you were very Off Base would put them a little on edge until they were sure you were okay.

Dogs are empaths. Not in a 'sensing your feelings' way, but in a 'analyzying your current situ and comparing it to previously analyzed and consolidated patterns they've noticed to make a judgment call about your state of being that can warn them of impending danger or signal that they are a Good Boy who gets love'.

EDIT: not to mention, that while on meth, we all smell different. Dogs have great sniffers.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's picking up on the subtle hints that I've used. I'm really good at hiding it from other people, but dogs are much more intuitive than other people. Often, people only see what they wanna see anyway. And it could also be the smell. I didn't think about that, but I definitely get some body odor when I use meth. I shower more frequently when I use to get the smell away, but he has quite the powerful little sniffer on him.

Absolutely. Part of my smoking ritual is wiping down the surface I use to prepare with a wet disposable cloth, washing my hands with soap and water, and rinsing my face/beard. I don't want to risk getting meth anywhere in the house that my dog could somehow come into contact with it.
 
I'd say animals feel us like we sometimes feel other people but more intense, and without judgement. When you've been repeatedly tweaked/stoned/whatever around your pet, it won't notice anything special, because for it there's no good and bad behavior. But the first time(s) one is in altered states around animals, yeah they sense something and they are curious. It's not too strong but certainly present, and with your own as well as with foreign animals, thus I think to be sure that it's not just you but that they really sense something. I mean, that's how we probably evolved. Being curious and taking psychoactive plants leading to consciousness expansion. Lol

Oh, animals won't accidentally ingest pills or substances like maybe babies might do. Animals survive by knowing what's toxic for them and what not. Unsure whether curiosity would lead to them using diluted substances which would be available repeatedly, in nature animals eat e.g. rotten fruits to get drunk too, but I have no fear that a cat would lick over research chemicals. They don't.

Generally true, but see my earlier post about my cat Schizzy. There's always an exception to the rule.
 
On dogs:
It occurred to me that my rescue pit is like a Mafia boss's right hand man. She is absolutely committed to me no matter what. A Velcro dog. It's amazing but weird. If she could figure how to join me in the shower without getting wet she'd do it. Absolute devotion and all I had to do was treat her with love. Wow. A lesson for us all?
 
My cat can tell when I'm high. Animals can smell the difference in our body odors and temperament.

Opioids make me a happy person but an angry person when I wasn't on them 24/7.

My animals definitely noticed that. They also can tell when I am on like... 300 miligrams of adderall tweaked out of my mind but this is a different story!

I do think animals (especially dogs) are very sensitive to human behavior. They can read facial expressions and body languages (proven from science experience hooking their brains up to a scanner and seeing the dogs react to photos of human faces). The dogs objectively with beyond proof can read human behavior and facial expressions.

I'm actually going to say yes... the dog can tell you're high as hell. My dogs can when its stimulants especially. The most concerning thing for me OP, is that stimulants do make me a worse owner. I'll forget to walk them as much or feed them when I'm tweaked as hell watching porn for like 12 hours... So don't worry about if the dog can tell you're a tweaker. The dog knows you're a tweaker... it just wants to be loved and taken care of lmao. Please take care of it and stop being so paranoid when high. On days I was speeding away I was definitely not the best owner. They're fine though and happy. I'll drop them off at my parents if I'm going to have a huge drug fiending bender day. I know I won't be able to take care of them as well and its not fair for them.
 
I am quite convinced my cat knows every time I dose psychedelics (specifically LSD more than others), his behavior distinctly changes. There's a long story to this but I don't have time.

Can I ever prove this and/or bring it up without sounding like a confused lunatic? No >_<

I'm fairly sure animals can detect subtle smell/behavior changes in their humans. If cats can smell parkinson's disease... pretty sure they can also smell LSD after ingestion. That's my theory.

Ive gotten two cats, I won't even use in front of them, it's strange, because , I e never really felt close to animals the way I do my cats.
