New member - 20 yrs on clonopin & tapering off alone

New to the forum.

20 year user of Clonopin after auto accident and my baby died.

Originally I was on .5 mg 5 x daily. Doc prescribed them no one told me anything about them. I go for a check up. Tell me everything is good write the script.

I moved 4 years ago and no one wants me as a patient. Trying to find a doc was near impossible.

Tapering myself now because I can’t find help unless I go to the one meth clinic in 60 miles of my house and I live in a tourist town.

I’ve read the info. I want off.

The withdrawal is crazy bad but I refuse to go back up to try to go back down.

Right now I’m at .5 2x a day.

I know it’s a small amount but it is still painful trying to get rid of it.

Any help at all for relief from the withdrawal other than sleep, less sugar and Tylenol is appreciated. I’m allergic or sensitive to most meds.

You are going to want to switch to diazepam if possible. It is longer acting, less potent which means it is easier to cut down on. They make very convenient low dose diazepam tablets that makes tapering easier. I recommend you speak to your doctor about switching to diazepam for the purpose of tapering off.

Your dose is pretty low so that is good. The key to tapering is to take it slowly and consistently. It is possible to be free of benzodiazepines but it is difficult (i know from personal first hand experience).

Sad to hear on the regime you have been on without the knowledge needed for that med and long duration wd or effects it can have on you. Wish you the best of coming off of it. But as mentioned i agree and personally know that diazepam is the best for tapering off benzos.

Thanks. I’m having luck tapering withdrawals are better than expected. Thanks to everyone here and your posts. I did get a therapist but still no one available with benzo withdrawal knowledge yet. Hoping my appointment next week will be a good one.
