Please help pregnant on heroin

Th

thank you for that, I was trying to avoid my baby being born with nas and having to stay in hospital for two weeks, but it’s looking like this may be my only option.
There is absolutely no shame in seeking help and in doing what’s best for your baby now. The best for your baby is what your OBGYN tells you to do, they have the experience. They will have the meds to make your baby as comfortable as possible as well. It’s not ideal but it’s for the best.

Please don’t miss your appointments and please don’t take anymore street drugs.

Not saying its gonna be like that but if that is the outcome it will be better for the both of you, mentally and emotionally and physically for him. Sorry if i was the bearer of bad news. Like i said i don't know much of this or any of this and those were just some info i found, but i really hope it turns out for the best for both of you. You being here and already asking and seeking advice shows that you care, just wish more doctors were as such but i sure you will come across one that will come through for you and your baby.

Edit: Just a slight cheer up but if thats you in your p.pic. Your kid is gonna grow up with a smoking hot mom

I will make my appointment this week they are pretty quick at getting you in, but I can’t stop the h until my appointment I tried the cold turkey and I it was so bad I couldn’t stop throwing up and then the stomach cramps started that’s when I got scared and got something not a lot just enough to stop the sickness and he keeps the same stuff most of the time.

Almost no doctor would tell you this, mostly due to ignorance, but if you can source oxycodone or hydrocodone or any safe, tested, genuine pharmaceutical opioid, and use it for maintence throughout your pregnancy, it would be safer for your baby, and less traumatic for the both of you, than methadone.

Perhaps they are right and tapering now will be too much for the developing baby. Either way methadone is a no go, in my eyes.

Well of course! That definitely made me feel better, thank you

Can you tell me why you feel that way? About the methadone? I’ve heard horror stories about the detox from it, but have no personal experience

Please please stop spreading this misinformation.

You are not a dr, this woman is pregnant. You have no idea how they deal with babies born to addicted mothers now. In the past it might not have been great but things have come on leaps and bounds now.

Please stop giving unsafe suggestions.

Have you tried kratom?

Kratom can be a life saver.
Please, please, PLEASE do not do this. While we know a fair bit about the effects of standard opiates on developing and neonatal babies and it's not great, generally it is something that is manageable, we know nothing about kratom. The best bet for OP is to come clean with her providers and to get on methadone.

There have been some interesting studies about mom staying on methadone through pregnancy and then tapering while breastfeeding so baby tapers too. I don't have them on hand but I suspect they were done in the Netherlands or some other place that is progressive about drugs. I wouldn't expect most doctors to be OK with it and I certainly wouldn't do it by yourself. However, it goes to show that the harm is not as much as people might think. While certainly not ideal, you are right that it is probably better than withdrawal. It is certainly better than drinking or doing some other drugs while pregnant.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I would advise you to go to your OBGYN appointment and put your pride to the side. It’s so important to ensure your baby is growing and healthy.

Do not stop cold turkey, this could put you at higher risk of miscarriage. Methadone is your best bet and yes it will be hard to come off this but I am positive you will do it. The more you evade the Drs the worse it will be for you. You need to work with them and accept the help because it will be the best for your baby.

Please do not take anymore street drugs. They can be cut with so much and the fent in them is so dangerous.

I'm really glad you saw this thread, I only saw it now.

I 100% agree with you.

Withdrawal is generally well established to be a risk to a pregnancy. Generally pregnant women are put on methadone until the baby is delivered.

Please please go to your doctor. It's possible social services will get involved given your addiction, but if you are on methadone and they see you're trying to get stable and healthy so you can look after the baby it's very unlikely they'll remove it from your care.

Please please go to your doctor. Yes it's likely social services will get involved but if you are on a methadone program or taking other measures to get help it's automatic that you won't keep the baby.
Just edit the last paragraph. I think you meant to say “but if you aren’t on a methadone program”.

I can sympathize with where you're coming from. Noone could blame you for wanting to avoid the baby being born dependant.

But opioids aren't like alcohol. Your baby won't remember being tapered off methadone. The primary risk here is miscarriage. And undergoing withdrawal does carry that as a risk.

There is the possibility of a taper, I have heard of doctors doing that in pregnant women successful without much risk, but these are things you gotta talk to your doctor about.

Most likely they will recommend essentially what I and MsDiz have suggested. That you get on a substitution program and then ween the baby off after delivery.

I'm not a doctor, but I know there are doctors who agree that maintenence with opioids with a shorter halflife would be preferrable in almost any case. And id bet its a hell of a lot better studied with chronic pain patients who are pregnant vs. People on methadone.

Because, without having studied it, it seems obvious the baby would suffer through months of withdrawal effects or at least 30 days, just like the mother, in the case of methadone vs oxycodone.

@SKL I suppose you are right about the kratom, that was irresponsible to suggest.

I don’t care what you think you know. Methadone has been studied and is much safer in these scenarios.

Advising someone to do something based off of your opinion or belief is madness and it’s not suitable for this post.

You have no idea how they treat babies who are born to addicted mothers and it’s obvious because you are incorrect in your assumptions.

She obviously expressed her regret in the first post. Not cool choices, but everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. - Sorry to snatch fat from the fire. 6am
