I checked out web site (GABAlabs) and from that i interpret there are going be more/alternative compounds they would be using in their products. But we'll see as nothing has come out yet.

They claim to be inventing a true non-toxic alcohol "alternative". They are very secretive of the proprietary (plant based?) ingredients. Their claims are quite high.
Sounds like BS to me since they wont release their ingredients or science.
It's probably going just be like every other bullshit knockoff "legal highs" you see in the headshops in the US and online

Wasn’t there a member of the aminoindan family of chemicals a few years ago that was supposedly the “new and improved alternative to alcohol?” I think there was an article I read about it although I don’t have it at the moment. But I can’t remember what it was.
Never mind it was apparently “5-methoxyaminoindane” someone had mentioned it above.. although I thought there was another one as well although I may be mistaken.

i cant find much info and wikipedia article is so vague. is this legal to purchase somewhere? i understand the no source rule of this forum, but if this shit is LEGAL and can save lives, why the fuck not share this?? fuck if mods of this forum give two fucks about saving someone's life as all they care about is RETARDED RULES that change ALL THE TIME.

LMAO I can't see this going wrong, not at all. If it's a GABAergic it'll likely be hideously addictive, very likely more so than EtOH even if it has less acutely toxic hangover feeling (as many of the weird branched alcohols do) and might even feature a lovely agitating rebound like GHB and friends have.
They're also asking for trouble with their marketing. Entering into a space that may be more regulated than they think.

If I remember correctly though wasn’t pagoclone non intoxicating? I definitely remember reading trip reports about it and it being referred to as “underwhelming” in many cases maybe it’s better left as a treatment for stuttering (what it was in clinical trials for I believe) if this is the case why would anyone bet any kind of money on trying to market it? The first and most obvious... Alcohol would be illegal now if it were discovered today. And so will this.
The second and arguably even worse reason. The new coke effect. Being "better" sometimes just isn't enough. People are attached to alcohol. It has a huge place in culture. And I think competing with it by trying to be similar but better is doomed to fail.
And third and finally, I suspect the product doesn't actually exist/work as described.

It's created through natural fermentation. It's a natural chemical which people create without even trying. I'd imagine it would be controlled but not illegal just like today.
It's also hard to imagine what it would be like if a very simple chemical like that were suddenly discovered in modern times.

Those last 2 don't even require any processing.
We have a culture where we ban recreational psychoactive substances as a default. Alcohol is only an exception for historical reasons.
It is likely some partial agonist benzodiazepine or z-drug (much more likely the former).
The problem is alcohol is far more reinforcing than any drug of such qualities. Would also produce physical addiction faster. I drink nightly but have stopped on an odd night with no withdrawal symptoms. I even quit drinking out of the blue one night (for nearly 2 years) and experienced no withdrawal. A partial benzodiazepine receptor agonist stopped in such a fashion would have far more serious of a discontinuation syndrome.

Z drugs are hit or miss with people though. Alcohol is by far the most widely used accepted and enjoyed drug in existence I believe.. it’s going to be hard to compete with that.. I enjoy z drugs and the like but not everyone does.. some people just aren’t into driving their car to get nachos at 3am and not remembering any of it in the morning.. while I hope this would be the case as another a usable z drug is always welcomed in my case I’m just not sure I’d bet my money on it taking off.. of course phenazepam did and it was purely utilitarian for me so maybe I’m an oddball

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to people who know me, but I've always felt like we get too anal about staying on topic.
I mean sure. You wanna strive to remain roughly on topic. But I don't think natural tangents in the discussion are bad. A lot of them burn out quickly on their own and when they don't that just means we get 2 threads out of one when it gets split off.
But just killing divergent discussions before they've even happened has always seemed a little silly to me. Human conversation just can't reasonably expected to remain on a clear and straight line. People don't naturally converse like that.
