First winter ascent of K2!

How exciting a day it is for alpinism/climbing. The first winter ascent of K2 was claimed by a 10 strong team of Nepalese and I couldn’t be happier for them, they deserve the recognition.

K2 Climbed in Winter for the First Time!

Around 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2021, a team of 10 Sherpas and Nepalis stood on the summit of the world’s second-highest mountain, K2, on the border of Pakistan and China. It was the last of the world's 14 8,000 meter peaks still unclimbed in winter.

Nice find (even although not my field of interest).

They don't mention the temperature oddly enough. I wonder (bearing in mind I start pissing myself at around 18°C)!

I cringed a bit when reading this is ice-climbing and outdoorsy... lol been so lazy for so long.....
There was a time not so long ago this would have been exciting to read and emulate. No more....

Just read they lost a member on descent. Sergi died in a fall from C1, they tried to help him but no more could be done. Shows the seriousness of this mountain. RIP.

Pretty sick. If ai had the resources then I would like to do something like that, not in winter time though.

Yeah for sure it’s an amazing opportunity to get to do something like that. K2 is a pretty harsh mountain though. The hardest in the world, you’d need to be so fit to even dream about attempting it.
