Mental Health How do you guys deal with stress caused by antipsychotics?

Please don't use opioids. They only work if the dose is continually increased.

What sort of stress are you experiencing? How would you describe it?

Gabapentin is sometimes used for people with addictions or for anxiety in bipolar disorder. It isn't something to stimulate you.

Honestly, no matter what meds I'm on, if I don't exercise, I'm a mess. That's just me though.

I just got back on seroquel 25 mg and I Don t feel stress/irritated anymore
I'm afraid I might not be able to quit them

Counter to what a lot of people say, antipsychotics aren't really that detrimental to adult nervous systems.

Have fun explaining that tardive dyskinesia not really detrimental to your nervous system.

Have fun explaining that getting seriously overweight and ending up with health problems isn't detrimental to your nervous system.

I think that unless you are seriously, seriously mentally ill, you should never touch an anti-psychotics. I think they are metabolic poisons and they CAN permanently damage you.

I kind of agree with this but only up to a point. I had serious side effects from Abilify and it was damn near impossible to quit without getting suicidal.

However if I am ever unable to sleep due to bi-polar mania or stimulant use just 25 mg of seroquel puts me out and i can use it as frequently or infrequently as I need without feeling dependent. At 25’mg seroquel is basically just an anti- histamine rather than an anti-psychotic.

Also occasional doses of 10mg Abilify are helpful in smoothing the way through stim comedowns so long as I don’t go more than 4 days or so taking them.

People who don't take care of themselves tend to develop the sort of things you're talking about.

At lower doses, the less strong ones can be useful in cases of depression and anxiety.

So can mirtazapine, and that one doesn't even touch the dopamine receptors nor does it cause elevated prolactin levels. That's the one I take daily for the last 16 years. The only side effect is weight gain and I can keep that under control to a more or less successful extent.

I think tricyclic antidepressants might work better, but for me the sexual side effects of amitriptyline were not worth it, and I only took like 10mg per day (back in 2012).

Yeah, I think anti-psychotics are waaaay overused in all western cultures. Might be better for some people to deal with their psychosis instead of feeding them neuroleptics.
I made just recently the experience that even people who just suffered psychosis-like effects due to overuse of a stimulant are put on anti-psychotics (orlanzapine and aripiprazole) long-term juts to be "on the safe side". Crazy, really!

It can be done is the basic motto. I vape cannabis flower. I also drink. Psychiatry violates your privacy.
