I reckon it will be extended until march (except for the temporary relaxation of restrictions for xmas - wtf is that going to achieve?).

I also reckon that no one will take the slightest bit of notice.

I was actually hoping that xmas could be on full lockdown and fuckin cancelled for once. It takes me all year to recover financially from xmas anyway - I was relying on Covid to do me a favour...

Yeah, i was hoping that too. I'm a proper scrouge, i hate xmas, apart from the food, although I'm usually too spangled to attend xmas dinner let alone actually eat any of it, but its still good cold a few days later lol.

it isn't evolutionarily beneficial for a virus to kill its host, as that means they can't transmit themselves to as many new hosts, so it is natural for viruses to become less deadly over time. even if you are taking the lag between positive test and serious symptoms into account- without seeing the source for your figures its impossible to say- re the reduced number of hospitalisations it does not imply that test results are being faked. there has been a huge amount of effort put into treatment, and corresponding progress has been made.

This is completely correct. The reason the positive cases are going up and deaths going down is because there are new strains. The virus is more easily transmissible but less deadly just like what a virus wants to be. It doesn’t serve a virus well to kill its host that’s why they mutate. We are seeing several strains at the moment but they are becoming less deadly although definitely more transmissible.

Plus the fact that many of the most vulnerable (e.g. care home residents) have already been taken out...

So instead of 'the deadly covid' we now have covid-lite, diet-covid, and friends, that aren't going to kill you, just make you a bit ill, and spread easier than the mother virus.
So basically we just have some more variations of 'the common cold' and the 'flu'...
Not really much of a 'pandemic' anymore is it 🤔

I'm still pretty adamant i had it last December but killed it after about 3 days in bed the same way i kill any 'colds' or sign of chest infections i get, with a shit ton of fresh lemon, lime, chilli and garlic...
I recommend that combination to anyone who gets ill. Works for me every time ;)

Exactly, there are definitely more people infected with the less deadly strain now than the one that was seen early on. It’s not to say that strain doesn’t still exist because clearly it does and it is still as deadly but the chances of catching it aren’t very high. There is still a reason to lockdown as the NHS is still under pressure and they are understaffed/underfunded and don’t have enough beds.
 
It's really hard to draw any conclusions atm. There are still a significant number of deaths every day (>500 yesterday), but the ratio of deaths to confirmed cases is decreasing simply because more people are being tested now.

Meh, it's still a shit storm but I'm increasingly questioning the viability of lockdown measures in order to 'control the virus'. We've just got to learn to live with it rather than fucking up the economy and everyone's lives in the process...
 
I'm just bored of being at home most of the time. And being skint.
I was self employed ya see so no furlough for me. Didnt have enough years of paperwork to qualify for it.
I did have a little cash in hand work but it's all dried up now and wont pick up until end of Jan at the earliest...

I can see how my mates all getting 80% of their wages are quite happy sat at home with just as much money as if they'd been working but I'm stuck getting benefits which leave me with about as much as id usually earn in about 3-4 days to last me a month 😑

Rant over, for now.

I don't agree at all that the herd needs thinning. That is an illusory ideology pushed upon our minds by big Bill and co.

But I do very strongly agree that life should, and actually in truth, go back to normal tomorrow.

Now they are telling us, over Christmas in UK, for every one single day of relaxed restrictions, there will be an additional 5 days of full lockdown.

It's like a freaking punishment. Which it is. It's just utterly ridiculous, not even verging on the absurd. But outright absurd.

Well if they are quite happy, and of course I realise thatbis a relative figure of speech...then there really must be a lot missing in their mentality and awareness.

Still, I feel for you in this tough spot. Would like to wish you luck on that, but a hard sentiment to pass on with everything so up in the air and downright ominous.

Just let Iraq, Libia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Darfur/Sudan etc... get them on with it and we'll soon be there.
 
fuck @jhjhsdi that really is shit. i hope you manage to work something out. i've got a good friend in a similar position and to say its had a negative impact on her mentally would be a massive understatement.

i just wish we'd have done a proper lockdown when it started so we wouldn't have this endless dire situation. the thought of being stuck in all the fucking time til easter is part of what got me into a shitty position with substance abuse again.
