US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

Governor Cuomo handled the virus so well in NY that he actually had to say he wasn't running for president.

That guy is a hero.

A) You didn't respond to mine.
B) I already responded to your reasoning.

Good night.

yeah I did and no you didn't. I get you want to just run away from the argument you're losing but the least you could do is acknowledge the points I made.

The democratic states were hit first because those are the most densely populated urban areas. Red states are more rural and it took a while to spread.

the reason you shouldnt go by deaths is because that statistic is based on a number of factors that has nothing to do with how well or how poorly that state handled the virus.

The state could have a higher percentage of at risk individuals.
Or it could be a higher populated state where the hospitals resources are spread more thin.

Also the Number of dead isn't a good reflection of how things are now since it takes a while for people to actually die. In other words check back in a couple of weeks and it could be different.

Okay. One last post before I stop this madness. You lost this argument a long time ago and you reasoning is inane. Let me break it down for you.

What factors?

Let's assume one of the factors you are referring to here is highly populated areas as you mentioned later. There are many countries that are more densely populated that don't have anywhere near the death rate of these democratic states.

The only other factor you mentioned that I'm aware of is "hospital resources". This isn't an argument... and again death rates for COVID vary massively all over the world. The death rate in Victoria Australia was very high (per capita) during their second wave and they contained it. Are you suggesting that Victoria has significantly more "hospital resources" (whatever the hell that means) than New York?

So a handful of democratic states in the US have a massively higher percentage of vulnerable (aged/disabled) individuals than Victoria Australia? Show me the data, otherwise this isn't an argument.

It only takes two weeks and these democratic states have had by far the highest per capita death rate in the USA for many many months.

None of your "arguments" make sense.

Epic fail.

Good night.

The coronavirus is a hoax and Trump won the election.
Sadly the first part isn't true as we know. Happily the last part isn't a done deal yet.

I was trying to catch up and get to the virus but I don't think there's much point really. Suffice to say I'm honestly of the opinion that I don't think it would have mattered who was POTUS in January of this year i.e. I think the figures would have been the same (give or take). I'm just repeating myself by saying that if COVID has played that major a part in voting Trump out well then something isn't right. Somebody mentioned Governor Cuomo. The below just taken from the Governor's website. I don't need a President or Governor to give me that advice i.e. it's basic common sense based on what we NOW know about this darn thing (bearing in mind that in January nobody knew anything really). Does that excuse Trump for his handling of the pandemic? No. Is it reason enough to want him out because of it? No. We'll never know (mind you: maybe we will if these election results hold) how people would have felt now if there wasn't a single death in America (or in the entire world for that matter) but everything else was fucked and would stay that way for years and years. There really is such a thing as a fate being worse than a death. You (not you in particular i.e. some on this thread I mean) need to watch a few documentaries about the Great Depression of 1929. That'll sober everyone up just a tad I reckon. Anyway. That's all I have to say re: COVID (far more than I intended anyway).

"However, our success also depends on the vigilance and smart behavior of New Yorkers. Wash your hands, stay socially distanced and wear a mask. Local governments, do the enforcement. We're going to get through this pandemic, but only if we do it together and stay New York Tough."

I believe it's called "combat fatigue" (saw another forum member post that on another thread somewhere some time ago and it made be laugh but was able to identify with said forum member at the time)! :ROFLMAO:

I suppose you think healthcare isn't an issue?

It's not an issue more than it is in third world countries that managed to contain the virus much more effectively than these democratic states. Everything is relative. The death rate in these dem states is extremely high relative to other countries and other republican states yet the hospital system in these democratic states isn't significantly worse than said republican states / other countries. Therefore, the argument makes no sense.

Good night.

Goodnight. Sleep well knowing you live in a progressive country where your leaders believe in science and reason. If you get sick you will be able to get treated without worrying about going broke.

Hopefully your sex, tv, and nap will restore your faculties and you'll be able to come back with better arguments. We should start with, why is "deaths per capita" a better measure of "worst hit" states than "cases per capita" ? That was your original thesis but you never said how you arrived at that conclusion.

I sleep well in NZ. Everybody does. I find the US fascinating, but I wouldn't move there if you paid me.

You have been destroyed in this argument.
