US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

The governors of each state are also greatly influenced by Trump and his assessment of the situation.

Just like our healthcare.

Yeah frankly this argument is quite poor.

Like it or not, the United States doesn't work the way it was arguably designed to work. It has changed over time and become more federalized and less like say, the EU and more like a country as we think of it today. The president is in charge of that country and has a responsibility to all of it.

It's just like in Australia and other countries.

What trump should have done was coordinate and pressure the states into a more serious response. Would it have been perfect? No. Could we have had as much success as some other countries where the citizens aren't like herding cats? Probably not.

But a lot more could have been down than was. Trumps response was worse than doing nothing, he actively tried to increase division and chaos.

If you think Trump has had no influence on the American people you obviously don't live here either

You implied it

When did I imply it? I'm honestly at a loss as to what you're referring too.

Obviously trump has had a huge and IMO profoundly negative effect on the country by significantly worsening already bad political divisions and IMO twisting the American right into a much more destructive version of what it once was.

Trump's influence over the American people is enormous and I certainly never intended to say it wasn't.

Even if it was and you were talking to rocket scientists, they still wouldn't understand.
Sadly and in just looking at the latest posts: I think you're right.

I can see it now. Defund the police and open the borders to everyone. Next thing will be renaming streets and airports and cities and states.

Bill Burr (American comedian) joked about Trump's wall before the 2016 election was final. While he may have been taking the piss out of Trump at the time: many a true word is spoken in jest (as they say) i.e. "By the time they've finished it this country will be so fucked up we're gonna be the ones going over it". Only his timing and reasoning were incorrect!

you spend your free time defending the guy who is actively trying to destroy our democracy.

I don't think he is trying to destroy your democracy.

Off topic.

He's the first president, I think.. Ever. To outright refuse to concede. To my recollection he refused to agree to a peaceful transition under any terms even before the election.

The threat trump poses to the American democratic systems is probably the number one thing I've felt most concerned about. Because if successful it would be extremely damaging to even try and fix it.

Trump has basically gone and said the election result is a fraud, he's given no evidence of this. And that is very harmful to democracy.

Deaths per capita, anyone?
Coronavirus cases are increasing rapidly across the country, but North and South Dakota led the nation in new cases and deaths per capita last week, according to Washington Post data.
In North Dakota, where cases have rocketed in the past month, Republican Gov. Doug Burgum has also acknowledged the phenomenon of disbelief among the population. Burgum pleaded with fellow residents late last week to take precautions as the state’s hospitals are overwhelmed with patients.

I get my facts from the CDC.

Way to blindly accept Trumps talking points though. Good job.
