Has anyone heard of the Permanent Midnight author, Jerry Stahl?

I have the movie, but I'm gonna have to order the book. Has anyone read the book and was it better and more in depth than the movie?

I'm gonna move this thread over to the "Words" forum, as it'll likely get more views over there, although a lot of that forum is people's writing, a question about a specific author is still probably the best place for it. If it doesn't work in there maybe they'll move it to film and television since it was a movie.

Does it mention how his mother died? In the movie he goes to clean up his mom's blood, but it didn't mention her cause of death.
