So I read that starting May 1st, San Diego County will be arresting and fining people $1000 for going outside and not wearing a mask? Seriously WTF!!! I hope I got that wrong, but that is just going too far. If you're sick, just stay the fuck home. Sounds like another step towards being a damn communist state. I'm all for taking precautions. I wash my hands 90 times a day. I wear a mask whenever I go inside a store. I make sure to get plenty of sleep because that builds up your white blood cell count which in turn fights off infection. I also take zinc or airborne every day to boost my immune system, but having to wear a mask every time I leave the house. That's going way too far.

That's bullshit... There's no way that would be enforced as literally what would someone homeless who can't afford a mask do? How would they pay 1000$? They obviously wouldn't be put in jail as they're releasing low risk offenders due to the crisis. You need to not believe everything you hear

The news online did say that. I verified it again, but you're right how are they going to enforce that? The article said that store owners can refuse to serve anyone not wearing one. I don't know man, the idea of that sucks.

I mean the stores here in ghee bay area are starting to deny entey to those without masks and the recording on bart recommends masks, but no one is getting fined for not having a mask.

A town nearby implemented the same law. I mean it might be excessive but its not difficult to cover your face for a short while when you're in close proximity to people. Chances are they will only fine you if you're not wearing a mask in certain areas. I actually plan on wearing a mask indefinitely. Its the perfect cover for the facecrimes I seem to commit inadvertently and excessively. Dealing with the general public has been the Orwellian-nightmare for me for like 20 years - So thank you Big Brother for the face mask!! <3 BB

They better hand out free N95 masks thrn and also eye protectors.

Guess it's more about the economy than health.

Is it that much of an inconvenience?

Wearing a mask will slow the spread of an ultra contagious and potentially fatal disease that is spread expelled and recieved through the mouth and nose. It is not unreasonable to require people to cover their mouth and nose nor is it much of an inconvenience, considering the implications of contracting the virus.

Coming from a background of medical expereinces:

I hope that this really isn't going to happen. I live in a big city in (420-land) and it has been very difficult to find ANY sort of medical gear. I've visited Walmart exactly when they open, several days, and they are always OUT of gloves and masks. I have TRIED.

The main problem is lack of supply, not negligence. Although there are those who are negligent and don't care about others health :/

So, in my opinion, there should not be a fine. I luckily know how to sew, so I've been helping my fam that way. However, not everyone knows hows to sew or can afford to order them off amazon. Besides, shipping time and availability for masks on Amazon are hectic as well. I actually enjoy sewing especially when I'm manic (bipolar II). I like to chip in. I loved sending one in the mail to my elderly grandmother who teaches pathology.

So generally, it would be the lower class that would have a harder time getting masks. What good would it do to fine them then? Bury them deeper in their debt? Instead, we need the authorities that be to demand mass production of gloves. Whether that's exports from China, we need to swallow our pride (Trump needs to take fucking action). Then once we have the stock, we need to set up centers where low income can obtain masks for a very low price- or maybe even for free. Also, we need to keep the professional medical grade masks for surgeons out of public access. I am not sure how people are obtaining these anyways.

Yes, it is quite an inconvenience to some. Underprivileged families may not be able to find them. Read above. I definitely understand the importance and agree with the severity of the matter, and I'm certainly not undermining that reason. COVID-19 is now joke, and that comes from medical experience. However, making a find will only worsen the problem. When you tax them, they certainly won't have the money, and then it leaves them in even worse conditions. They may have to live somewhere more unsanitary and catch COVID-19, thus spreading it more. In conclusion, I think taxing would create an increase of COVID-19 cases within low-imcome and poor populations.

Damn, I hope CO doesn't follow suit... They have mandated stay-at-home orders and closed 'non-essential' businesses. They have not mandated masks though. It's just unrealistic with the lack of stock and economic crash right now

Anyone can find a strip of fabric to fashion a crude mask with. Its more about reducing the spread than to prevent contracting it.

Anything that prevents stuff flying out of people's mouths and becoming aerosolized is better than nothing. Not so much for preventing infection for oneself but reducing the risk for others.

That is irrelevant though because it is very cheap and extremely easily to make a surprisingly effective mask.

Well it's only reducing risk for others if you are carrying the virus yourself. Homemade and ill fitting masks promote more face touching and unless changed regularly can result in a build up of the virus in the material which wouldn't happen if you didn't wear one

I heard it only lives for about 3 days on hard surface. So what exactly are you trying to say?

The notion would be to assume that everyone is infected. Its transmitted through droplets expelled through the mouth and nose. Limiting the expulsion of those droplets would slow the spread.

But concentrating those droplets in a rag bound to your face is surely not a good idea either?

When I visit clients where I absolutely have to wear a 'mask' I use an A2P3 respirator. However, these are only rated for 40 hours of use and I'm still unsure of their efficacy at filtering viruses.

A piece of paper or off cut of underpants badly fitted to the face is likely to do more harm than good to the wearer...

Here in Argentina the same thing happens, big fines for not wearing a mask, yesterday I was talking to a friend outside my house and I did not have a mask, but he did, a police car passed, many cars came behind them, and the patrol car quickly stopped to tell me "put on a mask or I'll arrest you" almost caused a traffic accident to simply tell me to put on a fucking mask, the funny thing about this is that my friend sells weed and had brought me an ounce, I was about give him the money, the police did not advance until I entered my house and left with the mask on .. it is something really stupid

Flouting guidelines when you're making large drug purchases is something really stupid
I know, but I only went outside my house for 2 seconds

It is 21pm and applause is heard throughout the city, car horns, some shots, they do it every day for weeks at this hour
Supposedly they are thanking the doctors, police and all the people who help control the pandemic ... and few people are really respecting quarantine, that is a little more stupid
